I wanted to know if I should take medical terminology this summer? I don't have any background in the medical field. Would this help me to understand the words better? Thanks for your input!!!!!!!

I took Medical Terminology the summer before I started nursing school and it seemed to help me. It was hard but I feel it was worth it.
Good luck with your studies! :)

ABSOLUTELY....teachers in my school strongly recommend to take medical terminology prior to signing up for the pre-nursing biology courses.
Enjoy

If you're motivated, you could try what I did - I spent forty bucks in Barnes and Noble on a med term textbook with a CD-ROM and studied it on my own - drilled myself on the roots, prefixes, and suffixes. I've been doing just fine in my classes afterwards. You may not need to spend the money on a structured class.

I completely agree with carolinapooh....buy the book from B&N and self study. I took the class as a web course, and would have gotten just as much out of it by self-study. It was worth the time spent on it...yes it is helpful - but I still don't think it was worth paying for the class. You could do it on your own just as easy.
JMHO!

Thank you for the advice. I was thinking about taking a web course but the book at Barnes and noble is very tempting. I don't know I think I would slack if I did it alone. I don't know what I want to do yet, but thankyou...

I say YES. I debated this myself... I'm half done with my first semester now and I thought about taking the semester before nursing school off but some folks recommended Med Term so I went ahead took it. I'm SO glad I did. While everyone else was cramming notecards for the med term section in nursing school I was taking a bubble bath!!!

I would take it in school, you will get a great deal more out of it than from an online course or a self study book. I did the self study myself before taking the class and yes it did help but the class itself is much, much more indepth.

Take it! The info you'll get is invaluable (IMO). Give yourself all the headstarts you can!

A class or a book probably wouldn't hurt at all.
....A book is cheaper, though.
Good luck!!!!!!!!! :balloons:
Thank you so much for the information. I will talk to an advisor soon.

I say no. You dont really need a class. Sure it would be helpful but if this is you last relaxing free summer, then enjoy. The book on medical terms would be perfect especially if you are reading at the beach!
