Should I contest this?

I am almost certain I got this one question on the final correct and I have information in my textbook to support my answer. I'm just wondering if it would be wrong to contest it with my teacher. If I get this one answer right on my test, it would boost my final class grade up one letter grade. I was thinking about not saying anything because I don't want to get on their bad side since I am going to have them in future classes. What would you do?

For an entire letter grade I would approach her with a question about, not asking to challenge it. If she agrees, then you ask if you can get credit.

I'd ask: after all, the worst thing that your instructor can say is "No" and you haven't lost anything.

But like Suesquatch says, don't frame it as a challenge. Just ask her about the question and she what she says. If she gives you the credit, yay. If she doesn't, let it go--you've already passed the class, and to fight her on one question for the sake of the next higher grade could cause that bad blood you fear.

We are actually encouraged to.. If we can find a rationale for why a different answer is correct they will allow credit. I would suggest politely approaching your teacher with your confusion as to why your answer is wrong and after she explains it you can show her your rationale and see what she says, you never know, you just might get credit! Good luck!

I really hope so...

I agree, just politlely approach your instructor and simply asked if he/she would take this answer because the book says this. If not, DONT PUSH IT afterall they are the instructors. Also make sure you have dont your reasearch about your question, you dont want to question an item on a test and not know what your talking about, trust me I know.......long story short I've learned that there is a difference between vaginitis and vaginosis. yeah i didn't do my reasearch.

In one of my pre-req classes we are encouraged to point out errors in the text (Algebra!) If we find one and reported it we got extra credit points for it. I found a few - I love EC!

It doesn't hurt to point out an error, especially on a test... but as it was stated before, don't be confrontational.

Good Luck, a whole letter grade is definitely worth the effort!

I think you should see the teacher. It's all about how you approach it though- be professional. Sometimes errors pop up in answer keys. There might be other students who will get that point too.

I knew someone who fought tooth and nail over grades and they were proud of the fact that they won almost every one of their arguements. In the end they got what they wanted an A, not an A-, but I think karma took over when a set of "missing" (but only "misplaced", not "missing") transcripts kept them out of a nursing program. Approach the instructor with your question as the others have suggested, but in the interest of your future relationship, don't get confrontational. If this is the one point you need to raise your grade, I hope you win it. Good luck.
