Shoes

Hi everyone,

i recently started working and after working 13 hours my feet hurt like hell. Any suggestions type of shoes I should buy?

I'm really fond of my Asics. They just seem to have the most support for my foot type and walking style. They're relatively inexpensive. In general, I've found sneakers to just work better for me than "nursing shoes" (such as Danskos or other clogs).

I prefer Nikes and New Balance tennis shoes. For me they are more comfortable than the clog nursing shoes. You should also look into compression socks. I have found they help with foot/ leg soreness. You can find cute pairs on Amazon or any scrub store.

RYKA sneakers very comfortable. You can work for hours and don't feel a thing. Also, try to change your shoes about every 3-6 months.

I swear by Brooks brand . The best nursing shoes I have found. Absolutely worth every cent.

Shoes are pretty individual -- you're going to have to figure out which shoes work the best with your particular feet. One thing I will say is that it's worth it to spend some money on good shoes -- it helps prevent back and leg pain as well as foot pain. Good socks are key, too. No little cotton socks, no matter how cute they are.

Some folks swear by Birkenstocks, but I could never make them work for me. Now that I'm old, I wear Birkenstocks all summer long. I've worn Dansko since they were invented, and they worked great for me! I've even worn them walking for exercise. (I got a lot of attention walking a half marathon in Dansko Professionals!)

Now that I'm older and my feet have changed (bunions and hammer toes), New Balance and Brooks work best for me. I'm really bummed to give up all my lovely, colorful Dansko!

Thank you everyone!!

I went on a search for the perfect nursing shoes. I tried lots of different ones. My feet were killing me so bad, that I was barely able to make it up my steps once I got home after a 12 hour shift. I was soaking me feet in Epsom salts, putting liners in my shoes, wearing support hose and feeling miserable. I am also losing weight to ease the burden on my feet. What I have ended up with are HOKA One One. The sole of the shoe is really wide and thick but remains light weight. The more between me and concrete the better. I paid 150.00 for them. I don't have toe pain anymore and my feet still get sore and painful but not to the point of tears, I'd say relieved 75% of my pain. I am an older nurse and don't really have foot problems, but I am continuing to lose weight and am building up my endurance. I sit at work when ever I can and elevate my feet in the break room on my lunch time. I take advantage of everything I can to make myself last longer.
