The whole kicker is - any job what they don't tell you. As I know it - differential pay starts at day one - also exceptions such as you mentioned, and also included sometimes an employeer may say not until you are after to probation period. Sad :) as CNAs we are not presented with a contract about wages. Instead of buyer beware - we are in the catagorey of of hire beware.
Yesterday was actually day 2 of my orientation. We've got .50 for pm, .35 noc, and .50 weekends. On my first day of general facility orientation, the person in payroll did explain to me that we had to work the full weekend to get the differential, and made it clear that if we clocked out even a minute early we would lose the extra. We don't have to work every weekend though (but I chose too!)
WOW~our CNA's should feel blessed! We pay $1.50 for eves, $.50 for nights and $1.00 for their every other weekend and if they work another weekend they get $2.00. I guess it depends on where you are. I would look for another job if one was available. Unfortunately if they lied about that it could be more. JMT

I have been working for about 2 months at an LTC facility as a CNA and when i was hired on as 3rd shift, I was led to believe that I would receive a shift differential on weekends plus working nights. Now they are telling me that you only get a shift differential if you work EVERY weekend!!! Are the even allowed to do this? Also, I am pre nursing, and would it look bad to leave a healthcare job after a few months to go to something better or would it just look good that I have experience in the healthcare field? Thank you :)
