Shift differential question

I currently work for an employer that pays a weekend shift differential to day shift workers but not to night shift workers. (Night shift does get a "night" shift differential but nothing additional for working weekends) I am curious if this is common practice. :confused:

Here for the state of CT, you get 15% more for eves and nights and then an additional 15% for weekends on top of that. If you work OT on an off shift and weekends you multiply that 15% by 1.5.

I've been at places that did both. The last place only paid w/e diff if you worked EVERY w/e. Days or nights, didn't matter, but unless you worked a minimum of 24 hours from Fri-Sun a minimum of 50 weekends a year, you didn't get a w/e shift diff. I've never really worked w/e in the past 20 years, so I am not positive, but I think most of the other places I have worked did pay w/e shift diff in addition to night diff.

One place paid both weekend and evening, and I also got $5/hr for being in charge. Another place (these are the most recent that counted) paid 10-12% for nights AND weekends. Seven years ago, my base was 25.00/hr + 25% shift diff- panned out to 31.25/hr. That was with 17 years experience in a moderately high cost of living area (compared to a LOW cost of living in central TX where my base was much less, but I got the charge diff and w/e + night diffs- and I purposely worked every weekend).

nothing for weekends for anyone and we all work every other weekend. night shfit gets 50cents more an hour. what a joke...............

I work in a Northwest Missouri area hospital - we get $3/hr night differential; day shift and night shift get $2/hr weekend differential for Friday night through Monday morning.

15% night shift differential, 10% weekend differential; also, 10% charge differential (1 nurse on nights here) ... Sunday's not considered a w/e, so I convinced my manager to give me Tue-Sat. Also, Clinical Ladder II is $1 more an hour, and ANCC certification is $3 more an hour. Adds up, even with a pathetic base salary.

I get $4 p/h for night and on Friday and Sat. night shifts an extra $2 p/h a night. So technically $6 p/h a night.

We only do 12 hr shifts for Nurses to my knowledge.

$4.65/ hr for nights and an additional $5/ hr for weekends. Our weekends are Sat and Sun, both shifts.
