sextuplets

So the sextuplets in AZ were born yesterday at 30 weeks gestation according to the Today Show this morning. During the show, Meredith mentioned another set of sextuplets born (I forget where) at 22 weeks. All I can say is Ugh...

I haven't seen anything more than triplets. I can't imagine being in the OR for anything more, our ORs are so small!

Yes, the Morrison sextuplets were born in Minneapolis (at just under 23 weeks). Hours later the Masche sextuplets were born in Phoenix (at 30 weeks).

Ohh, I hate to hear that.

I'm so paranoid that they will refuse to believe my dates when I finally get pregnant and just go by that stupid wheel to calculate. In that case, the wheel assumes you ovulate on cycle day 14, and I ovulate on cycle day 10, which means my baby would be 4 days older than that wheel.

When our neos go over for a consult, they take many things into consideration. They go by dates (LMP and sonogram) and the estimated weight. Our cut off is 23 weeks, but like I said the neos take other things into consideration if it's close to 23 weeks or they're not totally sure of the dates.

Does anyone know of how many of these babies are still surviving? The 30 weekers will probably fare off much better.

Hi All,

I live in MN, but we haven't been hearing much on the Sextuplets lately. Anyway, here is the latest... They lost their 4th on Saturday. The two remaining babies are still in critical condition.

Here is the link.

Take care.

I know where I work they wouldn't have.... anything under 25 weeks is considered a miscarriage. I have personally seen them pack up an OR that was set up for a c-section, after they recalculated the dates and found that the woman was 24 weeks + 5 days. Sad but I guess they have to draw the line somewhere.

Hadn't heard the 25wks "rule" but I have heard that many places won't resucitate if the babies 24wk and less who aren't born crying. Can't imagine they were, but never know I guess.

A 4th one died? Man, I can't imagine what that family is going through right now.

But these babies weren't quite 23 weeks, right? We don't do anything for anything less than 23 weeks, and this is why ..... so far 4 out of 6 have died. Not very good odds.

My heart goes out to the Morrison family.

We have our own set of septuplets due later this year in Wesley Chapel, Florida. Mom is going to go into the hospital on bedrest in August. They are in the paper once or twice a week. They have a public baby shower coming up. These couples expect the public to pay for their babies' medical care and baby items, help provide them with a new house and vehicle and care for all these little babies. I think it is too much! Too much expectation, too much risk.

p/s. I just had 38.5 week twin girls last wednesday 6/20 they were 5.5 and 6.1 and went home after 3 days, good little nursers, great babies but it was hard! I started at 105# 5'0 and ended at 150 and my legs were doubled in size with swelling after the birth. I couldn't lay flat when I got home, my hr went into 130's and I couldn't breathe. Luckily I started peeing and it feels so good to get that fluid off. I cannot imagine more than 2 babies. Two boobs, two babies, that is about all that is natural. Triplets are extremely rare in nature. I was on the pill for 10 years, have a 10 year old son. Got pregnant right off the pill, popped two eggs.... I would definitely have selective reduction. Rather 2 healthy babies than half-dozen unhealthy or dead mom.

It is interesting the rush to provide for parents of quads or more when many people who do the donating or soliciting themselves object to women who have serial singletons on the public dime.

Amen to that, MTP.

WOW!!!!! Isn't that the truth!!!! Couldn't've said it better myself!

There was a show, think it was TLC or discovery health that showed a set of large mutliples.... think it was that first set born several years ago. Initially, they had been given a massive home with bedrooms for each child, a large vehicle, tons of diapers and all of the other baby things. Well, several years down the line, they were broker that broke, having to sell the home because they could afford the taxes, they were miserable and truely struggling. Dad had 2-3 jobs, people no longer came to help, no more free supplies. Im sure they are on government help.

So, this outpouring of $$$ will help them get through the first your or so, but unless they have an impressive inverstment portfolio and a dream job, they are all going to end up like this. Taxes in fla are insane as it is, and I cant imagine what they are on a $500,00+ (depending on location can be triple this) home.

There is a set of multiples "john and kate plus 8" on TLC now. Three of them are on nebs 3x day. They do show how difficult it is manage with a set of twins and a set of sexts. The mom used to be a nurse and the dad is in IT, i think. But, the kids are IIRC 3 yrs old, so they havent hit the big expenses like highscool or college.

I dont think people think about the long term when it comes to having these sorts of multiples. They see their face on TV and a bunch of free stuff. Especially with these multiples getting more and more frequent, people are going to stop seeing them as freak shows and the outpouring of freebies will stop.
