So the sextuplets in AZ were born yesterday at 30 weeks gestation according to the Today Show this morning. During the show, Meredith mentioned another set of sextuplets born (I forget where) at 22 weeks. All I can say is Ugh...
I haven't seen anything more than triplets. I can't imagine being in the OR for anything more, our ORs are so small!

It's sad and appalling at the same time! I can't imagine the family with the 22 wkrs taking any of them home!

Thanks. I worked last night and hadn't slept yet, my brain wasn't quite working!

30 weeks for sextuplets may be a record, though. I know they were trying really hard to get her this far before delivering the babies.

I don't think that it is ethical for this to be a possibility of these fertility treatments. I hope those babies do okay.

The earliest set of multiples I've heard of in our NICU is a set of 23wk triplets....2 died within 24 hours. I can't stand the thought of 22wk sextuplets.

Jenny Masche, 32, remains in the intensive care unit at Banner Good Samaritan Hospital, but is doing well, despite having gone into acute heart failure following the C-section births of three boys and three girls beginning at 8:21 a.m. local time.
They family temporarily lives in Phoenix, so the dad called a local radio show this am for an update.
He said the babies were ok, but that mom was still in the ICU. She is in acute heart failure, has a swan in place, and has an ejection fraction of less than 20%. She has not had a chance to visit her babies yet.
He said that they did an ultrasound to count her follicles just prior to the IUI and she had 13 follicles! Most Drs would have cancelled the procedure with those results.

I used to work in ART and I totally agree with you. That is a *huge* risk. I can't believe they went through with it. I know the NPs and Docs I worked with highly pushed to have at the very most 3 implanted for IVF and would never have gone through with IUI at that number!!!
What would have caused that? The huge fluid shift? That poor woman. I wonder if the doctor told her that was a possibility before she was inseminated having 13 follicles!
