fil-am groups laud "sentosa 27" healthworkers for fighting injustice

international campaign, online petition launches on national nurses

week

new york - at the end of an intensely emotional town hall meeting at

the philippine forum headquarters last sunday evening, individuals and groups officially kicked off national nurses week in the united states with vows to clear the 27 former sentosa-employed health workers, including one of their lawyers, atty. felix vinluan, from all criminal and civil charges filed against them by the former, officially

registered as sentosa care llc and its various health care facilities

in new york.

it in the news i watch tv patrol last night about this sentosa case,

the nurses are paid $12 instead of the contract $22-$24 per/hr

this sentosa operate on NY upstate, they must also charge those

filipino cohorts of this agency:angryfire im with you fellas

Ohhhh, I really felt bad after seeing that news on tv. That is why Susan & Silverdragon is right, we should do our assignment! Beware of opportunistic agencies. We should look for its background first before signing a contract. We should not let them ruin us just because of our dreams & goal to be a global/international nurse and giving our family a better life.

My goodness! we are not slave but NURSES with dignity, skills, knowledge and attitude! Any employee has to be treated with good or enough salary (not below minimumicon10.gif), good place to stay-in or proper accomodation(not a small dirty room with 7more nursesicon8.gif), and with respecticon12.gif.

:trout: We are all one here irregardless of race, language, beliefs & culture "NURSES". And anyone who would abuse our fellow nurses is really not right! A BIG NO NO!!! :angryfire:angryfire:angryfire

This is a good example on why you should do your homework well. If you do direct hire you have much control over pay and conditions. Agency are just in it for money and will promise all sorts but very rarely follow through. Yes there are always exceptions but I think they are very few.

Try and put out the word especially this forum or website as plenty of answers are here and plenty of support from a lot of people either going through the process or completed the process and keep coming back to talk about their experiences plus suzanne's and others valuable support. It makes this forum a lovely area of wealth of knowledge

All nurses have to be aware that if they can prosecute Filipino nurses for refusing to be treated like slaves they can do it to all of us. Health care management wants to pay us minimum wage and work us until we drop. In New York City the nurses unions are supporting the victimized Filipino Nurses because if this can be done to one group of Nurses it can be done to all of US.

Where can I send money? these nurses have been out of work and have bills to pay. Lets chip in and help them survive.

nlrc junks nurses' case vs recruitment agency

on money claims, franco noted that the pay slips of the 31 nurses clearly showed that they had been paid a salary rate of $24 per hour even if their contracts only stated a minimum of $22. the labor arbiter also pointed out that one nurse was even paid $40 per hour.

my friend who works in la is getting $22 per hour.

So someone please tell me what I as a Nurse can do to help.I am a Manhattan based RN and have always had excellent working relationships with Filipino nurses and Have learned a great deal about compassionate patient care from them.

Where can I send a modest financial contribution? I know they have been out of work off and on as a result of this malicious prosecution. Do the Sentosa nurses have a website? If I had info on when and where court appearances are I could try to get the nurses I know to to come out with me to show our support. The various New York Nurses Unions are very much on the side of the Sentosa nurses.

Yes, direct hire is good but if you do a numbers game right now, I'm pretty sure you will come up with a very small number of interested employers (if ever there are) willing to petition nurses(especially if one does it alone), so much more if it's through the consular process. Most employers are looking at retrogression with pessimism and would only file when it is current.

As a result, nurses, especially those in the RP go to agencies for help(POEA accredited or not)...and all that they can do is trust their agencies. One can understand that better when one is making every means possible just to be able to eat, to survive.

I do not know where one can actually see/verify who are "bad guys" online, unless one really goes to the US embassy to ask.

When I wrote this 12 months ago there was still plenty of employers taking on foreign trained nurses, things do change and even going agency will not get the move to the US any quicker

Hi I am not against sentosa 27 BUT I'd like to clarify some things... First of all The rate has never been $12/hour this is not true... I have friends who are under contract with the same agency and the rate is from $26-$31/hour lower than the average state rate BUT understandable since they petitioned the nurse w/ the families. Complete with green card regardless how many children you have... I'm not PRO sentosa see they have flaws BUT I just feel that in order to support these nurses who breeched their contracts you guys should know the real story... What about those who are still in contract? I know that those who's limited permit ran late(uncontrollable situation) those people instead of being jobless were offered $12/hour to do clerical work. BUT as soon as their permit arrive they go back to the RN rate... I know many who didn't pass the NCLEX and instead of having no income since they cant practice as RNs ,they were offered $12 too to do clerical for the meantime. While they are preparing to take their NCLEX(for the 2nd time)

This thread was originally posted over 12 months ago, things have chaged including retrogression and seeing less nurses going over that haven't passed NCLEX first.

So the reason why they were charged 12-14 $ / hour was because they werent NCLEX passers yet?

I recently visited sentosa and there was a part in the contract that states that u get that kind of rate if u have this temporary work permit. I asked about it and the recruitment agent clearly said that it applies only to those who hasnt passed NCLEX but since Im already an NCLEX passer I will get the 27+ rate.
