Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi i need help... I'm going to be graduating in may of 2017, I want to get my bsn in Europe, but I am not sure of any bsn programs in Europe. Also, I live in Chicago so what is the best option for me; going to community college and transferring to 4 year university either in Chicago or Europe, or should I go straight to Europe and I would eventually love to come back to the US and work, debt free.. does anyone have the answer to this??

If you plan to practice nursing in the US, this may not be the best option for you. You would be classified as a foreign graduate and have to jump through a lot of hoops to become licensed in the US, no matter what your citizenship status. In many EU countries, nursing education is heavily subsidized by the government in order to support their own socialized health care system. You may face daunting challenges trying to gain admission to a program if you are not a resident/citizen of the host or another EU nation.

You are saying Europe as though it were one country, when you really should be asking about the rules for admission and costs for the country you want to live in and go to school in.

if you want to work in the US you should go to school in the US because your chances of getting your education accepted and being allowed to take the licensing exam for the state you want to live and work in will be seriously reduced. if the foreign school you choose doesn't prepare you adequately for passing the exam for entry-level practice in the US it will have been a waste of time and money.

I don't know about debt-free but I'd think you should expect to pay much higher prices anywhere in Europe as a foreign student. you might have more debt this way, if you can get loans for this in the first place.

if you want to travel then you should plan for some time to do that. if you want to work as a nurse in the US, you should plan to study in the US.

Is it that you want to move to Europe or get your degree there? If you just want to live there, you could always do an online BSN program from an American school and still live in Europe.

No, she couldn't. RN programs require two years of clinical rotations and that isn't done online.

I would get your BSN in the US and then go work and live in Europe later if you would like. Community colleges can save some money, just make sure all the credits will transfer to wherever you want to attend to finish your BSN. I chose an affordable state university and am doing everything there.

If you want to live in Europe, but not work until you get back to the US then get your ASN, move to Europe and get your BSN through an online US RN-BSN program. If you are wanting to get your BSN overseas and work as a nurse in Europe, then you are going to face a lot of obstacles both there and when you get back.

Have you even looked into immigration requirements to move to a country in Europe? I can tell you that immigrating to the US was pure hell, and I came from Canada. It isn't as simple and just moving and getting a job over there.
