Hello!
I am trying to look online for reputable info on nurse practitioner salary info, but I am not finding any! Some of it is saying that, for instance, an NP is going to start out at like 95k and I know that I have not seen ANY entry level NP jobs start out at that! I'm pretty sure that the salary I have negotiated is very competitive, but it is looking like dog bones compared to some of these online tool thingies - and I am not sure they are even accurate!!
Help!
Thanks in advance!!

Can you identify where in the country you are located?
south / midwest
Well, I live in central IL and the going rate for APNs in the hospital is around $65-70 for new grads. If you go to a specialty, you can make about $70-75. This is a pretty rural area and our cost of living isn't considered as high as say, Chicago or St Louis.

My program graduates 30-40 NPs per year, and the starting salary ranges greatly. Among only the Family NP grads who stayed in Virginia, the starting salaries ranged from 48K for someone working in an inner-city clinic specializing in homeless/HIV care to 135K for someone working as the only NP in an ortho clinic. Those with Acute Care NPs are generally working for health centers; most of those with Psych NPs are working in community settings --- and the salaries for those roles vary widely as well.

Did you check out this salary survey?
page 4 has the salary by states listed.

It really is wierd about salary and REALLY is about supply and demand and not necessarily about cost of living.
I mean the job i had in Texas pd 80k+ annual + 34 paid days vacation (thats more than a month!!!) And i was brand new grad first job.
But I had quite a few interviews in Texas and they were all about the same salary give or take a few thousand. I was amazed getting offers like that for a new grad and in all different settings, hospital, pediatric practice, family practice, etc..
But i was told time and again that they just couldn't find anybody. Even one job I was interested in didn't want to fly me out for interview and then i heard from them again begging me to come a few months later...
And the kicker! its dirt cheap to live in Texas, at least compared to Colorado where as a new grad IF you can find a job you start out around 60k is very competitive salary for the area, and the cost of living is MUCh higher in many areas of Colorado.
I could have bought the house i was in, in Texas for 650$/mo. brick house, 2 car garage, huge backyard, new nice neighborhood i think only 4 years old...
Its all about supply and demand.
check out that link though, i think it is pretty accurate compared to the several interviews i had in CA, CO, TX and the offers i received pretty much matched up.

They are paying 100k a year in Cookeville, TN. Down the road in Nashville it is half that.
I didn't believe it when I first heard it but I later found out it is the truth.

and that is for a new graduate?
I'm almost certain it is.

In Texas, the new grads I know are being offered 80-95K with some negotiated bonuses based on % profits, etc.

Can you tell me in what cities in Texas? I am graduating in August and moving backto San Antonio and I am having a hard time getting a handle on the NP job market.
Thanks!
