Ruby Vee, doggone it!

On that new nurse show Mercy, Nurse Veronica was repeated sexually harassed by a party dude that had lost his leg. It amazed me that she was able to see through it and reach out to him and help him to deal with his loss. Now I am a old lady and have not been sexually harassed in years(I consider it one of the perks of getting old) but I was a young and beautiful nurse once. I can remember experiencing sexual harassment and I know I dealt with it by withdrawing emotionally from the patient. I would also withdraw physically by dealing with the person as little as possible. While I admire nurse Veronica for hanging in there the "party dude" would have been on his own as far as I would be concerned. I don't know, does that make me a bad person or bad nurse?

i was reading a post this morning by you that spoke of inappropriate sexual remarks. now, having worked in a corrections facility at the start of my nursing career, i have had that happen. but, i thought to myself, wow, since being "out of jail" i haven't had anybody say anything like that to me. well, did ya put the kabosh on me or what?:chuckle tonight i had a man ask me if i would like to crawl into bed with him for a little oral sex. he was even kind enough to assure me i could keep my rubber gloves on if i liked. so, now i am home and i am going to try to scrub out my brain and pretend that 10 minutes of my life never happen. eek!

wow! can't begin to tell you how immensely flattering it is to have a thread with my name in the header! i can assure you, however, that i did not put your patient up to propositioning you! (not that i'm above that sort of thing, sadly. but i wouldn't know where to find you or your patient!) interesting to contemplate how he thought rubber gloves would enhance the oral sex experience!

i once had a manager called linda who completely lacked a sense of humor. i don't know how she survived in nursing long enough to become a manager without a sense of humor, but there she was. one of our patients was notorious for calling out his nurse's name -- loudly -- all day and all night, sometimes with a sexual "request" tacked on. after spending three days listening to him calling out for sue, the nurse who was caring for him those three days, i learned he was to be my patient on the fourth day. i told him my name was linda. did i mention that his room was right across the hall from the nurse manager's office? all day long it was "gimme some ice, linda!" "i wanna beer, linda!" and "suck my _____, linda!" linda was not amused!

(and no, i didn't get fired over that one. she seemed to believe me when i told her that he must have heard someone calling her linda because her office was right across the hall!)

i had a really demented patient one night who screamed help for hours and would see people walking by in the window and say "hey, come here! i need help!" and when someone would respond, he would say "my member hurts!"

one of the CNA's was walking by while i was in there giving him meds and heard him yelling. she came in and said "yes sir, can i help you?"

he said "oh god, yes!" so she said "what's wrong? your nurse is in here with you!" and he said "my member hurts! it really hurts!!".. the CNA said with a total poker face "well sir why does your member hurt? what happened it?"

so this old man looks at her, then looks at me and says "you see this girl standing here? she's been sucking it all night long!"
