RN licensure question

Hi, I'm graduating this semester in Florida, and I don't know whether I'll stay here or move to California. Can I take the NCLEX for Florida & California here in Florida? Do I take 2 tests? How does that work? Thanks

No, you do not have to take two test. Check the BON websites to see if theses states are in the compact if so u can just make one state your home state. If they are not in the compact you will have to get two licenses

You only take nclex once(if you pass). Then you have to apply to the state board of where you move to and they check to make sure that you ar eligible to get a reciprocal license in there state.

Florida and California are not compact states. This just means that you'll get a Florida license if you take NCLEX in Florida, and then you'll have to apply for a California license by endorsement when you move there in order to practice in California. You'll have to pay for both licenses, but you'll be able to hold a license in both states and go back and forth between the two with valid licensure.

Hi i would just like to ask regarding my status, by the way i'm a foreign trained/educated nurse from the philippines but i already have a visa screen via passing the cgfns & ielts and at the same time i already passed my california nclex. The predicament is that i don't have a sss which means i don't have a ssn either even though i already passed the necessay exams and requirements. Now i was thinking of endorsing my california nclex without ssn to illinois. Does illinois bon accept such endorsement and please tell me the steps/procedures in doing so, including the fees. by the way i'm still here in the philippines. thanks in advance.

Mojo, you usually would need to start a new thread for a new question, because people wouldn't see this here. In order to get the information you want, you need to visit the Illinois Board of Nursing website. You'll need the PRINTED RN application.

However, that being said, you'll likely have to call IL to see if they will accept licensure by endorsement without an SSN. It may be that, if you'd like to work in IL, you'll have to come to the US to get settled and get an SSN before you apply for an IL license. The process for applying for an SS number can be found here.

I learned something new, you don't have to take NCLEX everytime you move out of state, you only take it once. Now, I have a question. Let's say a nurse has a Florida licence and decides to apply for California licence--what is the process of applying? Do you have to take any tests? Thanks.

No test, but Cali will make you jump through flaming hoops to get a license. Google CA board of nursing for their latest info.

Thanks everyone. I'm pretty sure 2 licenses means more $$$ in fees.

If you know you're going to go to California, you can take the NCLEX in Florida but apply for California licensure. You can take the NCLEX in any state, it doesn't have to be the state you want to be licensed in.
