Ringside Nursing?

Hey, just wondering if anyone has been a ringside nurse at combat sport events. Sounds interesting, but I wasn't sure which events would use nurses vs physicians, and how to look for these jobs. Is it mostly networking to find these opportunities? I kickbox and thought it would be a fun way to use my nursing degree after graduation next year.

    I could be wrong, but my husband enjoys boxing and MMA; it seems like they have medics ringside

    Plus, unless you're an EMT-P already, I would STRONGLY discourage prehospital nursing until you have experience

    It is usually paramedics or even an MD, from what I've seen. As a nurse, you would need someone who could give you orders before you could treat someone, not to mention the liability involved.

    I did this once for MMA. Was offered the opportunity because the usual PA wasn't free and he called the ER asking if I wanted to do it. I was paid with free admission and was to get "free drinks", but thought maybe it wouldn't be wise to drink for obvious reasons. I ref yelled at me for not leaping out of my seat the second a fighter got knocked out. The guy went down and I observed a moment to see if you was unconscious or just taking a breather for a moment. There was no need for panic and I made my way into the ring he quickly regained consciousness and was fine. This isn't for me and I won't be doing it again.
