Relocating

I am a RN of 2+ years in Florida. My fiance and I have been looking to relocate to California. I have never been to California and would like some input. We are not sure if this move is permanent, so I think I may try travel nursing until we decide. My fiance is a surfer so we would like to be near great surfing locations. I have read that San Diego is great for traveling RN's....We are both very active and love to be outdoors. I don't think we are looking to live in a rural/city area. Suburbs are more for us. Any input on the better hospital systems out there would be great too. Thank you

Check out Kaiser for sure. Great pay and benefits. They are in northern Cal and Southern Cal. There are 8 million Kaiser members in California, so you should have no problem finding work. They also have a call center if you want to be an Advice Nurse.

Order for nurse retention Scripps, Kaiser, UCSD and then Sharp.

Order for benefits UCSD & Kaiser ties, Scripps then Sharp.

Order for pay in SD Kaiser, Scripps, UCSD and then Sharp.

I ranked Sharp last because they have a lot to prove after the possible strike in Nov because of poor pay and retention.

Rady's I just heard it is really hard to get hired on there.

Thank you. I will look into that health system

You're welcome. My personal opinion from word of mouth. Through your own research find what you like. Also once you finish come back and post your findings after interviews and also talking with locals if you don't mind. That way others will have the information from someone else other than me.

What is Scripps, UCSD, Sharp and Rady?

What is Scripps, UCSD, Sharp and Rady?

Hospitals and healthcare systems in So Cal.

San Diego has good surfing. I would say you will find surfing all up and down along the coast, but it depends whether he wants to wear a wetsuit or not. Santa Barbara is a lot more low-key than SD but it's also way more expensive and it doesn't have as many hospital systems to choose from. There is also Orange County, which is between SD and LA.

look out for open houses. Scripps just had one.
