Recording Lectures?

Hi Everyone,

I'm starting my nursing program this month- can't believe it's finally here! A former student at my school (graduated) advised me to ask permission to record the teachers giving lectures. I'm a very visual learner- reading and drawing are my things (for example, drawing a heart with all its internal workings of the best way for my to learn and remember how it works). However, I can understand how being able to replay the lectures would be helpful. The grad student also said that the teachers always mention material that will be on the tests.

Has anyone else done this and was it helpful? Is it a common thing to do? It's been a looong time since I was a student and I want to do well, but also not looking to request anything unusual that will set me apart from other students right from the start.

Any other tips for learning are welcome too ?.

    I got permission first and recorded a few of my lectures,helps to listen while you do other chores at home.

    That's funny considering many smartphones have good quality mics like the iPhone. Unless the school/class/instructor requires phones to be upfront in the class. Still, it can only take one person to record lectures for the entire class, not the entire class. That's if the class is that efficient.

    I used LiveScribe pens all through school and found them incredibly helpful. You must take the notes in LiveScribe notebooks, but they are very reasonably priced and I actually only used 3 for the whole of nursing school. When you upload to your laptop, you can change the settings to replay at 1:50 or higher to play back faster. Cuts out all the dead time.

    For note taking I'm in love with my Five Star Flex 1.5 inch Hybrid NoteBinder. True to its description being "like a notebook and works like a binder" I've used it my first week for each of my classes. I keep my handouts in the provided inserts. I take notes on the loose leaf sheets and then rewrite them, neater into a spiral notebook post class. I easily swap out anything I need depending on the class.

    I also upload all material that the professors give to a dedicated school folder in my online Google Drive. Each class gets its own folder. I upload my syllabus and any PowerPoints to each respective class. I print out my powerpoints using the 3 slides per page so that I there are note lines printed next to each slide.
