I Dont get it, I was told that when I graduate I would be able to get a job right away, because there is a shortage in nurses. Now Im told that in order to get a job you will need experience. I'm scared. Ive applied to at least 20 hospitals, NO ANSWER. What is a new grad to do. How does a person get experience exactly if they cant get hired. What to do?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Hang in there & keep calling & applying, even for positions you may not like.

I'm sorry that you've applied to so many places and have not gotten answers. How frustrating!

You may already be doing this, but after you submit an application, make sure you follow-up with a phone call a few days later to confirm that HR has received it. It might not hurt to ask what the status of your application is, like if they are going to forward it to the nurse manager on the floor and if they are going to interview candidates. Definitely good to be persistent!

Definitely be persistent...and maybe try expanding your search geographically. I have had more success with interviews in rural settings so far.

I'm sorry to say that I've run into the same problem that you're having. In my area there are no jobs for RN's in hospitals even if you are an experienced RN.

Have you considered applying at a LTC facility? I know that it may not have been your dream job or even something that you thought that you'd ever do but in the big picture it is a job and every day you work you are one day more experienced for your next position - who knows, you may find yourself enjoying the position.

Just a thought.

I am sorry for your trouble, as I am having the same troubles you are def not alone, as you can see from the million different threads about troubled new nurses.

I would def same my best advice is to stay positive, pray, and be very on top of your applications. Call often until you hear a yes or no. Persistance tells them you are serious about landing a job at their facility, even if you feel like you call too much or you may be annoying them, if you call and nothing happens you are in the same place you are now, which is no where. I really hope that you find a job soon and keep me posted. Where do you live? I live in South Jersey and it is very hard here too, but I'm trying to stay positive. Remember good things happen to those who work hard. Goodluck!
