I know that it is hard to do but has anyone ever been told that you can't take Microbiology and A&P at the same time? I have a friend that was told that she couldn't take both. I was told that I could but they thought that it would be tough but if I thought that I could do it that I could. Anyone else hear anything about that? Thanks in advanced. Kimberly

I was strongly advised against it, but explained that I was not working and that those were the only two classes I would be taking so the advisor let me do them together. I don't think she let the young lady in front of me, however, and I think it was because she was working full time.
I got A's in both and did not find it too challenging, but I did have a LOT of time to study and never left Micro lab early - those of us that stuck around got a lot of help from our prof.
Nursing spots for my school go by GPA, so the advisor really stressed that it was really important to get A's in these classes.

I will be takin A/P and Micro together next semester, despite what any 'advisor' tells me. Who really cares what they think? They don't know your capabilities. If you're not a slacker, then take both at the same time. Don't let the front office administration of these colleges bring you down...
Spoken from someone that's had enough dealings with college adminstrators and advisors...they don't know what they're talking about anyways.
My advisor was genuine and knowledgable (sp?) and seemed very interested in my success at college. She was very emphatic about the need to get A's in order to make it into the nursing program. I greatly appreciated her advice as she turned out to be absolutely correct.

I took A&P II, Micro, and Pharm in Winter 08. Although I didn't work at all...I was dealing with 2-4 children (2 are steps so they aren't in this house full time) and a husband being deployed for the first half of the semester. When my husband returned home, that was also a big adjustment and distraction because he was gone for 15 months. I'm no genius, but I did have my priorities (although studying wasn't my strong suit). I never missed class, was never late, and took VERY good notes. I managed to get an A in all 3 classes.
Hey...you, and only you, know what you are capable of. If it's important to you, you'll find a way. Don't let others tell you what you can't accomplish. Unless it's against the rules, you and only you should decide whether or not to take those classes. Believe though, it is DOABLE...would I do it again? I sure would!
I'm sorry I was long winded, to answer your question...I have never heard that you can't take both classes at the same time. As long as one isn't a pre-req to the other...it shouldn't be a problem.

I took both at the same time and managed to get A's. I found Micro to be pretty easy. You can definitely do it.
I've never had an advisor that seemed to care as much as some of you make them sound. Some people get all the luck I suppose...

If you have nothing else to focus on but the two classes I would say it's possible to take them together and do well. If you are not a great student it could be a challenge, though. Only you know how dedicated and smart you are, and how much the grades you get will impact your chances of getting into a program if you don't already have your spot.
Thank you to all who applied.
I personally have a 3.97 gpa I don't work I am lucky enough not to have to. I took five classes the last two terms. I will only have to take 4 this term and I will be taking 5 next. It will be tough next term. I am taking
Microbiology
A&P (but it will be my third time I have taken it both others are 5.5 yrs old and 12 yrs old)
Chemistry
Develop Psych
and my last math class
The A&P should be a breeze for me I got A's the other two times I took it but they are both too old it sucks.

I work full time, am moving cross country tomorrow, had a horrible knee surgery leaving me on crutches for 8 weeks while living alone.... and I just finished Micro and A&P2 this summer. It's a lot of work but completely do-able if you need. I thought I was way in over my head but it's amazing what you can do when you put your mind to it!

I took them both together while working 3 days a week and with 3 kids (including a 1 yr old) and I got A's in both classes. I did however take Micro online with no lab so that helped but it was still a time commitment. I thought some topics overlapped in both classes so that made it easier at times. Go for it!
