question about my posts

Really quick, i was wondering if you could tell me why sometimes when I post a new thread, over on the right hand side there will be a "check mark" or sometimes there is a padlock (which I assume means the discussion is locked). What is the check mark and what does it mean, and also why are some of my threads "locked" after a few replies?

FYI: I LOVE this site. Because of this site I have gained the confidence to return to school for nursing. So thank you to everyone~!

The padlock symbol indicates the thread has been closed to further posts by an allnurses.com moderator. The reason for the closure is often posted by the moderator who closes the thread, but you could PM a moderator if you want more information.

I'm not sure about the "check mark" you are referring to, but it may be the symbol that indicates that the thread is one in which you have posted -- it will of course be there for all threads that you start, since you are the original poster.

Here's a link to the allnurses.com video tutorial -- lots of hints & tricks there. Welcome! :)

The checkmark means that you are subscribed to the thread and you can click it to quickly unsubscribe if you wanted to...

Hello, yuyu75

Like cardiacRN2006, the check mark, subscribed.gif , means you are subscribed to that thread.

The lock, thread_lock.gif , does mean the thread is closed. These are normally closed due to violations of Terms of Service (TOS).

If you ever have questions about staff action on a thread, please contact administration (via the admin help desk forum) and we will be happy to address your concerns.

Ah, thanks I learned something. I don't subscribe to threads, so I don't see that symbol.

I don't subscribe either, but the thread_dot_hot_new.gif is very helpful because that means that you have posted already once to that thread.

I've noticed that if you post on a thread, you are automatically subscribed to it.

I think you have that as an option. Down below the post there is a drop down menu where you don't have to automatically subsribe...

If you choose not to subscribe to a thread, go to, "My Account" and click on the dropdown menu to, "Edit Options". Scroll down to, "Messaging and Notification".

Then (see image and click on to enlarge):

And, as cardiacRN2006, pointed out, there are a couple other ways as well to subscribe or not.

Oh, that is what I thought happened too. I like to keep an eye on the threads in which I post. Once every couple of days I look at my subscribed threads and delete the ones I don't want to be subscribed to anymore.

Learn something new every day. Thanks sirI.
