Hello. I am in 4th semester in the associates program at City Tech in Brooklyn. The last year or so has been pretty chaotic with regard to student / faculty relations.I'm not sure if other schools are the same but all semesters at City Tech involve 3 exams worth 20% and a final worth 40%. Lately, there have been a lot of issues with these exams and how they are written. Apparently, the school had been using test banks for several years but somehow students got hold of them so they stopped using them and started writing all new exams. So the story goes anyway.
When I first started, the course handbook stated that all students were entitled to a review of each exam. This was a great way to figure out where we went wrong and also gave us the opportunity to point out mistakes, of which there were several. Possibly because of this, the faculty have now decided there will be no more reviews. Our lecture professor claimed that City Tech was the only school giving these reviews anyway. I would like to know if this is true? Do students at other schools get to do post-exam reviews or was this really just a citytech thing?

Our school would show us the test and go through the answers after our exam (usually they just copied our scantron and read off the answers) so we had an idea of where we stood.
They stopped that halfway through our program because of cheating. And yes it was kind of frustrating at the time for a lot of us because it's hard to know what to remediate if you don't know exactly what you missed.

Some instructors will go over the exams in class question by question. Others will allow us to make a one on one appt to go over the exam and have questions explained/clarified.

Some instructors do, others don't. Too many people arguing answers and it was taking forever to get through the test. If we come close to failing we can set up a time to meet with our instructor and do a test audit. I like the one on one time to see where I am going wrong. I've seen several people post on here about the problems with this school right now. I hope your instructors don't see all of this.
You either need to put your head down and get through to graduation, or find another school.

Our program posts exam scores the same day (they are done on scantron) and then the tests are available for review at the nursing office. We can't take the exam with us but we are able to review them regardless if you have missed 1 question or 20. If we get under an 80% we need to go in for remediation where the professor goes over each question on the exam and tries to understand what went wrong. They are great in the fact that if the question seems ambiguous then you can get the point back and they will rewrite the question to be more straight forward for the next year.
to be quite honest... I love our exams! So simple and straight forward. No trickery!

In my LVN school (scantron), the questions were reviewed During class. Lots of arguing and question dropping ensued.
In RN school, (online testing) the instructors meet at a staff meeting without students and do an analysis of questions to determine if a large majority got a question wrong.
If you still have questions about why you got a question wrong, you have to set up a meeting during office hours.
We also get to see our wrong answers immediately after finishing the online tests. This is helpful.

In my ASN program we took scantron exams. The grades were usually posted the same day, if not the next day online. If we scored below a 75% we were required to go in, look over our exam, and fill out a form basically stating why we thought we did poorly. Students with passing grades could also go in and look over their exams with the professor if they wished. If you did go in, it had to be before the next exam was administered. That was our deadline to review that test. We could always dispute questions if we found obvious proof in our text that was contradictory. Didn't happen often, but every once in awhile we would get the points for a disputed question. I think it's unfortunate that your school is ending reviews. Good luck with everything!

Our school has a "silent" review typically during the start of the next class (except for the exam prior to final which is typically several hours later after the test) that typically lasts between 10 to 15 minutes. If there are questions based on rationale, they can be asked after class (if the professor has time) or via an appointment. Some reviews have revealed mistakes the scantron made (i.e. cases of two students having their scantrons exchanged for one another by the person putting in the scrantrons, a jamb of the scantrons, or the scantron not properly picking up an erasure/changed answer).
Thanks for the feedback. Verification of what I suspected, really. Our professor's proclamation that no other schools do reviews is nonsense. Regardless, I'm almost out of there so I'm not going to get involved in drama
