Almost fired for med error
Serves you right for reporting it. Snitches get stitches, even if you snitch on yourself. The doc changed the order. No harm no foul.

Gov. Christie impose pain pill limit: 5 days for initial RX despite N.J. docs objections
I hate republicans, but I cannot disagree with this law.

First code experience
I've always been able to separate my emotions from the work. Often, after the fact, when the patient doesn't make it and I'm speaking with the family I'll feel bad for them, I empathize with their pain, but I've just seen so many die in front of me that it doesn't phase me, yet I don't think it ever did.

Paramedic and nurse?
Most paramedics I know are freaks in the bed. Go paramedic route.

Why are you listening to the heart?
In the ED I work at now is a nurse, with whom I also worked at in the ED where I was told to stop listening to heart sounds. This nurse doesn't even own a stethoscope. I am not exaggerating. I'm not sure how one assesses the effectiveness of breathing treatments, etc, without one, but I've worked other EDs where I never saw nurses with this vital piece of equipment.

CPR - I need a myth buster!
Really, OP needs to read a book. OP would then understand things like overdrive suppression and why it's ineffective when the ventricles take over, etc.

Adult gero vs acute care
- Cleveland Clinic VS University Hospital
What are you talking about?- Increased blood pressure. What to do?
Had the patient been working with PT just before having vitals checked?- Cleveland Clinic VS University Hospital
Perhaps you've heard the expression "the fish rots from the head?" Toby has created a culture where nurses have no say and are expendable. Why do CCF nurses wear all white? Because Toby says that's what the uniforms will be in spite of every Clinic nurse I know not liking all white. Gets dirty too easy. At Metro, on the other hand, the nurses voted on their uniforms. Totally different culture. Some people prefer a totalitarian regime. The majority, however, prefer a democratic system. And free speech. Just not here.- Cleveland Clinic VS University Hospital
I don't reveal where I've worked.- Cleveland Clinic VS University Hospital
Dont have people coming from all over the country? Hmmm. You sure about that? There is more celebrity traffic at CCF. That doesn't mean they are any sicker. They have a totally different business model. Regarding CVICUs at CCF, that's their forte. Nobody argues that. You must be related to Toby.- Why are you listening to the heart?
Murmur that gets better with increased volume.- Why are you listening to the heart?
Begs the question, why listen to heart sounds on a med/surg floor then? What would that change? Other question, does the time it takes to do a slightly more thorough assessment when time permits make a major impact? Just curious.- Cleveland Clinic VS University Hospital
High acuity go to the clinic? Really? Many would say UH main campus ICUs have just as high acuity as CCF main campus. Mainly due to the fact that inner city people tend to seek care less frequently, in which case they are far sicker than average when they do come in and these types of patients tend to go to CMC over CCF.- Why are you listening to the heart?
What about if hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is suspected?- Cleveland Clinic VS University Hospital
I was quite successful at Metro. That being said, I saw several newer nurses get fired while still in orientation because they weren't "picking things up fast enough." Problem is, they had zero guidance. The new grad residency is separate from what happens in the departments. Don't confuse the two. If you look at surveys, you will see in general CCF has low job satisfaction among nurses. I forget where I saw this, otherwise I'd link you to it. UH rules!!!!!!- Capstone

Little Italy is a cool place to live and probably more convenient.- Cleveland Clinic VS University Hospital
I have worked at all three. I will never leave UH. The Cleveland Clinic treats nursss like excrement. You are expendable to them. It's a very negative environment where they are always waiting for you to mess up so they can pounce on you. Metro simply doesn't support nurses very well. Especially new grads. They just sort of hang you out and let you sink or swim. If you fail, they fire you. UH bends over backwards for nurses.- I want to quit
So quit. ER is definitely not for everybody. I float so I occasionally pick up shifts on the floors too. Makes for a change and allows me to get to know patients better. I'm a talker and enjoy the interaction with people.- Why are you listening to the heart?
At a previous job in an extremely busy ED I was often criticized for "over assessing" my patients. Not being focused enough. My manager even told me once I should never listen to heart sounds. He posed the question,"What could you possibly hear that would change what you do?" I have a few answers to this question, but I'd rather hear more experi need nurses answers. - Cleveland Clinic VS University Hospital
