Finding a APN preceptor for Graduate Clinical
I looked up their website on the internet and emailed them. There must be a group in your area and you can click on the "contact us" link that most have. Then email them your request. They will want to know a little bit about you and what are you are interested in finding a preceptor for. Good luck and have fun. I have had great preceptors and great clinical experiences.

Snow- at what point do you call out?
Mixed emoptions about this one. I live 40 miles from work. I usually plan on extra driving time when the weather forcast is bad. I have spent 3 hours on the road going to work- and made it there on time because i left early. I and many other co-workers have stayed over in empty patient rooms so we could work another shift and not have to leave. I always have had personal hygiene items in my locker for such an event. I have no sympathy for people who live closer than I do to the hospital and don't make it in, however, like I said. I have mixed emotions. I did those things when I was younger. I have been a nurse for 30 years and I have become a bit jaded toward management/hospital administrators. They know that nurses are caring and duty-minded and self-sacrificing and they use that to manipulate us. The manager was serious. Yep. There would be no sympathy or understanding if you get killed driving to work in bad weather. It would be your "bad decision" Elective cases can be cancelled. Patients can be discharged, and if the managers are not coming in and working extra to cover, then they should not expect regular staff to do so. (The only times I have not made it in because of snow is when I have been stuck myself. Which has only been about 4 times in 30 years.) Your safety and your family come first. regarding students. as someone else said, if the campus is closed then clinicals are cancelled.

16 fired for HIPAA Violations
Considering we are not even allowed to look at our OWN medical records, what made them think they could look at someone elses? I think if they were that "concerned" they should have visited her. Curiosity killed the cat...there is a reason those old sayings are around.........

Finding a APN preceptor for Graduate Clinical
Hi Chris2732, I called every hopsital in the area and spoke with the director of staff development. They could contact all the NP and CNS who worked in their hospital. I also called and emailed the state Nurse Practitioner association and they sent out a letter in their weekly newsletter. I called every nurse practitioner in the phone book. I have a friend who is a professor at University of Michigan, and she gave me names of possible preceptors. My school had given me a list of possible preceptors, but it was out of date and fairly useless. My instructor gave me the name of the nurse who is going to be my preceptor and her name is not even on the list the school gave me! Where do you live?

Finding a APN preceptor for Graduate Clinical
To Chris2732, I did find a preceptor on Thursday. I will be working at a Diabetes Clinic which treats primarily adults. I will be learning how to regulate medications for blood sugar control and hypertension. I start on Wednesday. I already teach nursing clinicals on a part time basis. I am getting my MSN primarily so I can teach full time. I love teaching the nursing students. My first nursing instructor told me to get out of the nursing program because I didn't have the right attitude. Ha Ha Ha.....I have been a nurse for 29 years. I teach because of her. She made my life miserable, along with a few other instructors and I wanted students to have a positive and rewarding experience. I have had students tell me that if they had not had me as an instructor, they would have dropped out of the program. So, I am really happy that I have been an encouragement to these students. I intend on volunteering at a free clinc as well as teaching and I will precept MSN students at the free clinic. That way the clinic gets two nurses working when I am there. I feel that this is what God has called me to do to serve others.

Finding a APN preceptor for Graduate Clinical
To Chris2732, thanks for the link. I intend to make myself available as a preceptor for grad students after I graduate. I already have it planned out. To elkpark. There is no liability for the preceptor unless the preceptor makes a mistake. I am an RN and I have my own insurance.

Finding a APN preceptor for Graduate Clinical
Why is it so difficult to find an APN who is willing to serve as a preceptor? They know what it is all about and they know a clinical experience needs to be done by all of us. This is so frustrating.

Fall 2009 Graduate school roll call!!!
1. Eastern Michigan University 2. MSN/CNS in Adult Health with a teaching concentration 3. Working full time 4. Attending school full time 5. I am actually in my last year. I have been attending sporadically to get the first year completed. Nervous about full time work and school but this is where God wants me to be. I have a supportive husband and 2 supportive adult daughters. I am excited about finally finishing and teaching full time.

Millionaires on nursing salaries
As I contemplate my massive debts and the 54 hours each week that I am working to try to get out of debt, I long for the day I can retire, but I doubt I will. I would bet that I will not leave here unless it is in a body bag. I hope I have my bills paid by then.

I got written up and it's bringing me down
I would write more about what it takes to be a nurse, but I have to get ready to go TEACH A NURSING CLINICAL. Hey, maybe I could just email them all and tell them what I did at work yesterday. That would save me 80 miles of travel and 8 hours of time. What a concept!!!

I got written up and it's bringing me down
I take great offense to this ludicrous post. I don't care how much I talk about my job and what I do at work with my family/friends, they could not do what I do, nor can anyone who sits in an office and has never provided patient care. I guess, in your world, nursing education could consist of on-line chat rooms. You must work with a truly abysmal group of nurses if you can say the things you said about their performance. By the way, YES IT IS THE LICENSE that makes one a nurse, as well as the education, experience, blood, sweat & tears that are behind the license. I absolutely agree that it IS only nurses that KNOW nursing.
