  3. Hi, Whilst assessing suicidal risk is difficult, it focuses on the key areas, of thoughts, plans, means and intent. I would suggest that if you are concerned about someone or someone wants help and there is no immediate risk, they should in the first instance be referred back to their G.P. If they do not have a G.P, give them the details for the local mental health service, both the 24hr crisis service and the community day service. If you are concerned about the immediate safety of someone, if they are cooperative, send them to the nearest crisis service, if they do not want help but you believe they are at serious risk, phone the police or ambulance, they have the power to detain someone under the mental health act, Emergency Examination Order and will arrange for them to be seen. Your job will be to identify persons with potention mental health problems and refer them on, it shouldnt be your job to preform long mental state examinations, treat, give therapy or counselling as that is a very time consuming process. Bottom line, anyone your concerned about, get them seen by someone from that department ASAP Good Luck!
  4. Hi, Not in my experience, i have had patients report that it gives them a "buzz" and can interupt sleep patterns if given in late afternoon, but never had anyone complain it made them drowsy.
  5. However hollyjolly has a good point, as being a newly registered practitioner she should be given a decent orientation/support package? and if she is feeling unsafe, you must doing something about it, just sitting back and doing what your told "because everyone else does it" is not good enough for best practice. Don't be afraid to speak out, even if nothing changes, you have alteast bought it to someones attention so in the unlikely event something does go wrong, you have made the effort. Good luck.
  6. yes the results will be interesting
  7. Hi, Whilst I did not do my training in Australia, what I take out of it is that it is asking you to describe the legal aspect with enrolled nursing and medication management i.e, supervision by a RN, working in your scope of practice, reporting, documentation etc. but focusing on the key thing of making sure your practicing legally within your scope. hope that helps Good luck
  8. yeah i had heard they were looking at something like this, not sure about when, but i have definatly heard it in the wind. About time I'd say, would make things a lot smoother all round
  9. Hi Again, If you are an agency nurse in australia you are paid above what you would get paid if you were a permanent staff member at the facility. However becuase you are an agency nurse your employer is your agency you are with, not the hospital you work for therefore you do not recieve Annual Leave, Sick leave or any other entitlements, hence why your basic wage is a lot higher. Depending on the agency you are with your accommodation could be free, or else subsidised, depending on the area also., some agencies also provide assistance with travel costs. Good luck
  10. if you want some help i'll do what I can good luck
  11. Above all, if she is not feeling comfortable, then she MUST tell someone, it is not acceptable to put a student in a potentially serious risk situation, this needs to be bought to the attention of the supervisor/ lecturer, whomever is responsbile for the students.
  12. haha pie_face, excellent. They refer to nurses by first name, so I see no difference in return. Most of the time they need to be bought down to reality, they are hardly "gods"
  13. Hi, I dont know who toldyou it would cost 200,000 peso but accoding to the currency converter i used thats almost $6,000 NZD!!!!! thats ridiculous, It should only cost you a fraction of that , a few hundred NZD at the most. Here are the details about registering for NZ: http://www.nursingcouncil.org.nz Australia have their own registration boards depending on what state you want to work in. I am sure you will not find it difficult to get a job in NZ or AU, its just getting registered which may take some time. All the best
  14. yet the governement convienantly give themselves a payrise every year as they see fit.. but your right, the shortage will continue... good for us agency nurses though
  15. Hi, I am from NZ and am currently working around australia, It is best to get linked in with a nursing agency, that way you will get the best pay (agency rates), support and help from them with the processes and application etc, and best of all they find the jobs for you, and its free!!! Currently aus is desperate for nurses, so really the country is yours, you pick where and when... If ya need any further help let me know All the best
