  1. Historically San Diego has favored BSN grads like most California urban new grad markets, but during these changing times I'd recommend you apply everywhere. Who knows, many staff nurses have left to travel so San Diego hospitals and hospitals all over CA are definitely looking for staff.
  2. There's quite a few NorCal New Grads who experience the same situation, I also did too. It took me more than a year to find my first acute-care position. My advice is look into moving to the Central Valley, they hire a ton of NorCal new grads.
  3. I didn’t get an interview. Congratulations to those who did and good luck with the rest of the process! I hope you land your dream job.
  4. No. It means that your application has been routed to the units that are hiring and the nurse manager(s) are reviewing you app.
  5. Yup, listed in a table format just like they specified.
  6. Good eye. Looks like the job posting was recently edited and they originally meant "CPR" (BLS cert) instead of "PR". I had to double check if I was on the right job listing because I didn't know new grads needed a Public Relations cert!
  7. This website lists many new grad programs in California. https://rnnewgrads.com/california
  8. San Francisco hourly wages for experienced RNs are usually $60+ an hour, and some places bring the rate closer to $70+. Private hospitals pay more than public or government. For the rest of the Bay Area, the range is $55-65. Keep in mind the average rent in SF is approximately $3.5k a month.
  9. I also plan on applying. I am curious if the complete hiring process length (stated as 3 months) will possibly be longer or shorter due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  10. Didn't get in either. Best of luck to those who did!
  11. Haven't heard anything yet. Keeping my hopes up!
  12. I just interviewed and during the application process, I did not include a cover letter like the instructions specified.
  13. Yes, the nursing recruiter Ms. Lorelei Rivers said this was the "Final Round" which was surprising since the first round was postponed. Maybe they're trying a different format this cycle.
  14. It'll be a 30 minute panel interview in the conference rooms with the managers of the units that will be taking new grads. The units include the Ortho unit from Los Gatos, and the Mountain View Med Surg, Oncology, and one more, I forget. Either Cardiac Tele or Stroke Tele. The interview date options I was presented with were next Monday, Tuesday, and Friday. (3/9, 3/10/, 3/13)
  15. Just got a call around 1630 to reschedule.
  16. Nope, haven't heard anything.
  17. I would apply 3 weeks out. The CA BON does not recommend applicants applying further out than 2-3 weeks. I would also recommend doing everything on the online application on Breeze, and not the paper application. I would not recommend taking the NCLEX for the Arizona BON and transferring to CA by endorsement, if the sole goal is to work in CA. The CA BON website actually states that this can be slower than just taking the NCLEX in AZ for CA licensure. The bigger issue is the fingerprinting. It is 100% worth it to travel to CA from AZ and get the LiveScan done in CA. The fingerprint card can be a hassle. The CA BON has massively revamped their online process and it's much more reliable than paper. If you have an option do something online, I would recommend that option. Make sure when your School of Nursing mails your final transcript with "degree conferred" stated on it, that you also mail every single one of your community college transcripts for prereq classes too (if you went to different CC's.)
  18. Apparently there has been a scheduling conflict with the interview panel so my interview (Monday 10am) has been rescheduled. An status update will be sent out next week.
  19. I got a call around noon, first round screening interviews are set for next Monday and Tuesday (3/2-3/3) with the panel of nursing directors.
  20. Pretty darn competitive. There's more than 10 nursing schools (ADN, BSN) in the SoCal area and lots of new grads looking for hospital work. What helps stand out is the certifications, preceptorship, and and a strong interview skills in my opinion. Also making your application both detailed yet succinct really helps.
  21. Hi, I applied too. Calls for interviews should come in around 3-4 weeks.
  22. I'm currently a nursing student in the South Bay Area (San Jose State). The issue with the job market here is that there's no shortage of licensed BSN degree RN's who have multiple years of experience already working in SNF or hospitals. Thus, when applying to a new job opening, you will be competiting against these people who will need less training and acclimation compared to a new grad. In addition, there are multiple nursing school in the Bay Area that have clinical rotations through the local hospitals, especially in SF, (SFSU comes to mind) so those nursing students have a leg up. Hospitals like to hire nursing students (SN) that have clinicals through their hospitals as they already have experience on how the units and whole operation flows, as you might know. I recommend that you either try applying for New Grad programs in the Bay Area (UCSF has one), and if that doesn't work out, get some experience in TN. Experience will be beneficial regardless. (The Bay Area pays the highest nursing wages in the entire US. Every RN here knows this, and probably RN's in the other 49 states too. $70 and hour, + mandatory staff ratios too.)
