  1. This was very helpful. I have given plenty of SQ injections, but no IM injections as of yet.
  2. I was so hung up on brushing up on everythng I could before getting in. I must say, it was so useless because nursing school is so different from any pre requisite you will take. I am not sure anything can really prepare you for nursing school.
  3. I have had two awesome clinical rotations. I love the clinicals. Some people bring lunch, and some bring snacks. So far, pizza is the big thing. Sometimes we cook and bring stuff from home. We have a great clinical group. I dread next semester when we will change.
  4. That is a really cool site.
  5. Woohoo!!! Way to go. Read, Read, Read
  6. I thought I would share an update. I cannot believe what was thrust at us in these short summer semesters. Life has taken quiet a turnabout. I went from having my act together in the pre-reqs to not knowing what in the world I am doing from one moment to the next. Somehow, I made it through semester 1. The real trick is learning time management. I am still trying to figure that out. With each new semester, there will be more and more thrown at us. Each time we accomplish one goal, there will be 2-3 more just waiting on us. Good luck and just remember, if others have made it through, so can we. Hang in there.
  7. Thank you Capecodmermaid. I really appriciate your reply. You answered the question I needed just fine. I read on the instructions, and it is just list services, but I wanted it to have several. I think it is a good list, so that really helped. I did get back to sleep, but I guess now that I am awake, I should get back to it. What takes you 5 minutes is going to take me two hours since I am just starting NS. It is much harder than I imagined, and yea, I will admit, I am more than a little nervous. The good thing about that is my apetite is very small. I have kissed those A's from the pre-reqs goodbye, and I thank God for every C I make. I know it will get better, especially when we get that 16 week fall and spring semester. These 4 week semesters are about to do me in. Having a major exam Monday along with starting clinicals, learning all drugs we have to make cards for, and also these projects (case studies, and quiet a few others) etc, I am very overwhelmed. I kind of feel :trout:. I know this is just a taste of what life as a nurse will be, but hey, someone has got to do it, and since this is what I want to do, I may as well learn to deal with it with humor. Anyway, thank you again.
  8. I am fixing to start my clinicals in the Nursing Home setting next week. I was doing a search through the forum for threads with different services for the patients, but didnt find one. If I just missed one, I apologize. I am very sleep deprived, but then, I know everyone knows first hand what I am just learning. I want this project to be really good, so I was going to see if anyone could steer me in the right direction. I did see many posts that will help a lot in the next few weeks as I do my clinicals, so I will definitely be spending some time in this forum over the next month, and thank you to anyone who can share some words of wisdom with me.
  9. True. I am from Tennessee, but I will always have Texas blood running through my veins cause my dad's family are 100% genuine Texans.
  10. I feel your pain. Our program started out with a bang too. We are off for a week next week in between semesters. Do we get a break We have to do drug cards and we have to read our next set of units. Welcome to Nursing School. It moves very quickly, so do NOT get behind in reading.
  11. I was afraid you would say that, I know how you Texans value your citizenship, so I very meekly stated where I saw myself going after I finish school.
  12. Well, I dont know what to say. I will probably be moving back to Tennessee. I will stay in allnurses though. Lets see, I will have to change my name. Ya know, Tennessee Angel just doesnt sound right. What ever will I do????
  13. I am really happy for you that she is going to keep him. That is a load off your shoulders I know, and we will all be in this together. Thank you so much for your awsome vote of confidence there. I think we will all make it, and most likely, all in the same year.
  14. Thank you Blessed. I appriciate you rooting for me.
  15. Wow. That is good that you already have your schedule. I hope everything works out as far as childcare. I will be keeping my fingers crossed that they do.
  16. Well, it didnt make me, but it didnt break me either. I guess the final will do that. I did pass it though and I still have a B.
  17. Thanks for your encouragement stpauligirl, but really, I know this week will either make me or break me. If you dont see me back again, it broke me. :uhoh21: Just kidding.
  18. I didnt mean to scare anyone. Sorry about that. I just hope everone deals better with the stress of it all better than I did. I feel pretty good about what I read this weekend and that I will retain most of it, but there were still other things I really needed to look at. I just dont want to see anyone else mess themselves up like I did. I was looking at all my grades last night and I have a B as of right now, but it could go either way. Maybe it will be ok.
  19. This is the first time I have ever ventured into this forum, but I had to stop in and say how much I agree. Daytonite has helped me with many issues by sharing links. She has a link for everything you could need one for. Thanks Daytonite.
  20. I am finishing my first semester. I knew it was going to be hard, but you just never know how until you get there. I knocked myself out the first two weeks, and did ok on the first test and real good on the second. The bad thing was, I was too nervous to eat right, I didnt take breaks, and I didnt exercise. That was a huge mistake. Dont make that one. Take your breaks and take care of yourself. I was not going to quit, but I was to the point where I could not pull myself up. I was ready to give up. I am feeling better now, but I am hoping it is not too late. I have our third exam Monday, our comprehinsive math exam Tuesday and our comprehensive final Friday. I am not sure I am ready, but I am going to give it everything I have. Maybe I will be able to retain what I am trying to cram in in the last few days. I just wanted to give some friendly advice and wish everyone good luck!!!
  21. I do have a careplan book, and I will rmember that. That is going to be a big part of this next exam. We are reading a chapter right now that expains all about it. I think it will fall into place.
  22. We are finishing up week 3. I feel a little bit like someone has :trout: me. I think I will survive though. There is just so much info to take in. Two more weeks to go. We start clinicals next semester. I am glad we get to work with partners for the first few times.
  23. We are starting all of that next week. I am excited, but nervous. I know we can always count on daytonite. You are great, and a big help to everyone. Thanks. We are doing our fist care plan in class as a group project, and then wrapping the semester up the following Friday. It has gone by really fast. It has been a serious challenge so far, but it is really so interesting. The summer semesters are a killer.
  24. I was in your spot exactly. I loved the people I worked for, but the phones nearly drove me crazy. I was to the point of being rude and literally connected the clients through to the legal assts. before they were finished telling me about their situation. I wasnt supposed to listen to them for confidentiality, but I really cut them off in a bad way. I am glad I never got in trouble. I was working for 7 attorneys, so those phones rang all day. There is no way I could have coninued that job while going to school. I miss the people, and the money, and those Christmas bonuses were awsome. If I were you, I would try to find some other kind of job. What about a tech at a hospital? One of my friends does that, and they work around her school schedule. Besides, you will be getting some experience. It has helped her a lot. I wish I had done that before I got accepted. Good luck.
  25. I am not sure why a man would let anyone discourage him from doing what he wants to do. I think most women in nursing thing it is a very positive thing for men to be nurses. I think the only way a person can make a man feel less of a man is if he lets them.
