  1. I think your peace of mind (travel time), is the most important. Take the job. You can say you tried it. Be sure to leave on good terms. Get a reference if possible. Take care.
  2. This sounds like my life each day I work. I am a new nurse,(out of school 5 years but licensed only 2), hired into an Observation Unit ( 1st job). Before we finished all of our classes Covid-19 happened. We didn't complete Telemetry testing, Acute care or Wound/Skin classes, or CPR classes due to this pandemic. I was thrown into Covid patient care, full PPE thankfully. I really wanted to get some experience, but not like this. I struggle with consistency daily. I have a routine, however, I still seem to miss something here and there. I feel like mgt is just waiting on me to quit. But my resource nurse has been awesome. I don't have the confidence just yet to be on my own. Working on that. I try to be swift, but the charting takes a while and is never done quickly. I wish there were set ways for everyone to learn, but everyone has to find their own way I'm told. I hope you don't leave nursing, but maybe find another floor. I spoke to my boss weeks ago and let her know this was not what I expected because at my interview she stated that if I felt I needed to be on a different unit she would help me find one. Yeah, I don't see that happening either. I'm nervous about putting myself out there again. Oh, I'm also on my 2nd preceptor because the teaching style of the 1st one was NOT conductive to learning. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who feels this way. Plus, how would you add this to your resume or would you. Keep us posted. Good luck.
  3. Thank you for your transparency. I never intended to be a bedside nurse either. I've had a rough time finding a job period. But through word of mouth and family, I've had a couple of Private Duty assignments, which lead to some Flu clinics. I've developed some confidence. Always thought I'd be a clinic nurse - applied to many with no responses. I enjoy the senior population. Giving serious thought to Nursing homes now. I still like Surgical service, Endoscopy particularly was my favorite rotation. Unfortunately, I wasn't taught how to draw blood or start an IV. Which has been a huge road block. But I still believe there is something special for me in nursing.
  4. Forgive my ignorance. But isn't a LTC nurse still considered to be a Med Surg nurse?
  5. Thanks everyone for your encouraging comments. I applied at an Agency and accepted two different assignments as a Flu Clinic RN since October. The nurses that I've worked with were a wealth of information. I am currently preparing to interview for a PAT RN in Peri-operative Services at one of my local hospitals. Keep me in your thoughts. Thanks!
  6. I've been out of school for a while (2015). Due to health issues, I postponed taking my boards. I passed boards in 2018, recently took a Skills refresher course to boast my confidence level. I've only done volunteer work and taken care of family members. My question is how do you overcome 1st job jitters. I am searching for my 1st "real" nursing position and feel anxiety about each application.
  7. my obese patient covered with feces that his lazy home care provider left impacted in his crack. And now it'll take 5 of us to clean!!
