I'm from Canada and my visa was pretty quick. Got the COS on the 18th of August and had approved visa in hand Sept 9th last year. We arrived in the UK Sept 23rd! Though in Canada there is a UKVI visa processing centre so I could go in person. I'm not sure how long it would take to mail it in. Though I think they have processing times listed on the UKVI website.

Can anyone tell me if I need to have current registration in my home country to apply for a licence in the U.K.? My licence lapsed in Canada because I couldn't afford the $475 annual fee this past February as I now live in England. I of course have always been registered when I was working as a Nurse

Do you need to have current active registration in your home country? Or can you be non practicing? I'm from Canada and living in the UK. It's renewal time and I don't want to spend $500 to register as active in Canada when I am not in the country.

Thankfully your COS has no bearing on your decision letter. If the Nmc has all of the documents, you are in the assessment cue and they shouldn't need updated medical etc unless they find something else to question and you need to be assessed all over again, if that were the case though, you'll get an email from them. I was in the assessment cause aug 16 and got my DL Sept 23.

Hey! Certificates of sponsorship are only awarded once a month on the 11th. Your employer must send the completed application to the home office department that awards the COS's by the 5th of the month to be looked at on the 11th. Your employer will find out the result within 5 business days after that. Make sure you contact your employer for the decision outcome. Mine me was sent to home office by my employer the 5th of august and was looked at on the 11th. I got the results on the 18th of august. If your employer missed the deadline of the 5th, your application won't be assessed until the 11th of the next month unfortunately. If if you've been waiting over a month, call your employer and ask if they've heard anything.

I was a direct hire to Oxford University Hospitals trust Neonatal unit.

It doesn't mean anything really. It'll say that until you get your decision letter. If they need anything, they'll call you.

I received my COS on August 18th and applied for my visa right after. Arrived here and DL was in my inbox September 22nd!

I actually got my decision letter! Was placed on que Aug 16, was expecting feedback for more info as I did a fast track diploma program 15 years ago, but they didn't need it! Great timing too, just move to Oxford area from Canada and start work Monday in the John Radcliffe Hospital NICU!

Everything is uploaded, last document over a week ago and it still says "More information required-feedback" at the top. Does this mean I need to call them? When will I know it I'm on the que?

From what I understand, going through the same thing from Canada, as long as you are eligible tier 2 visa, they are eligible for a dependant visa. You do have to apply at the same time though.

Maine thing I found helpful was to look through the blue print and study what had an "E" beside it. But the "E"'s mean there could be compulsory questions related in the exam that you have to get right. Another thing i studied was the was the mental health act. Here in Canada, some of the rules regarding restraints are different and safety is a huge thing for the NMC. I hope that helps!

I'm so jealous of all of you getting your DL's and COS's. I'm still on the que and my COS should be available today but my HR recruiter at the Oxford Uni Hospital Trust is on holiday until Monday! I'm so done with waiting... The more I sit and think, the more I doubt myself...

Hi Cottontail! im sorry, I've been off here while on vacation and didn't see your reply. I did my CBT June 2nd am still not on queue because I needed to resubmit my employer number two... Hopefully I'll be on queue by the end of next week. I've been hired on at Oxford University Hospital's NICU (lots of openings) and hopefully will have a certificate of sponsorship soon and can apply for my Visa. I'm so tired of this process and am ready to go! Where in the US are you? I'm in Toronto Canada!

Hey. It's not at all a requirement to getting your registration. Sometimes an agency can give you tips to filling out your application though. I was in talks with two different agencies, one of them did give me some guidance regarding certain quirks of the NMC application but i ultimately ended up doing the application and found a job in my own. I'm currently waiting for my application to be placed on queue, then hopefully it'll be a quick wait for a successful decision letter.

I think I read somewhere that they will only accept online applications. Most of the forms you do have to download, fill out and mail in though, especially anything your college, employer or registration body needs to fill out. You need to apply online before they can invite you to sit the CBT.

This whole process is a lesson in patience! Process started March 25th IELTS done April 21 CBT passed June 1st All forms uploaded or sent and application submitted June 27th i was hoping to start working before the kids go back to school in September, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen...

I just did mine last month. The domains are important. Especially the ones with an "E" beside them in the next column over, the critical questions come from them. Besides that, brushing up on medication calculations, like drip rates, etc.., there is a domain that lists what you need to look over for that. As long as you are up to date with your medical/surgical knowledge you should be ok. Make sure you know the code too. You also have access to a few practice exams with Pearson Vue, I found them helpful. Only 5 questions, but it gives you an example of the test format. And don't bother buying any exams from NMCprep.com. Their content is US based and isn't a true example of the actual CBT. I hope that helps!

Yes it's pretty crazy!

I'm almost through the assessment stage and have hit a possible all stop. I trained as a Nurse in Canada graduating from Humber College in 2003. It was a three year diploma program that they fast tracked to get more nurses into the field before Ontario switched to all Degree trained Nurses. My problem is,we did the third and fifth semesters in the summers and graduated 2 years 4 months after starting. It is the exact same program, equivalent to 3 year diploma, meets every requirement the NMC. My recruiter says they may not accept me because I did it in less than three years. The dean of Nursing at Humber (thankfully was there in 2003) is going to write a letter. Do you think that's enough? Or am I screwed? I haven't yet upgraded because I had a family and put my husband through school...
