That's a pretty good score, Kate! Congratulations. !00 composite score is the average median. You did well. The one thing you need to look at is your percentiles for the program you're entering. That's the DI, ADN, BSN, etc. If you scored 90% for lets say the diploma program it means you scored as well or better than 90 % of those taking the test along with you. I hope I explained myself well.

my acceptance letter. I got in yesterday and I honestly think I know what people who hit the lottery feel like. It's amazing. I went to church today and thanked God for all he had to do with my acceptance because I believe he had to have had something to do with it.I was up against 1100 applicants (or so that is what they say) only 120 are chosen. We all know that there were people that looked as equally good on paper as I did so I feel very blessed to have been one of the ones chosen. I wish all of you who are still waiting the best of luck...we all know it takes some of that too.

Hey there...Letters of acceptance or denial are mailed today, probably recieve them on Tuesday or Wednesday. I'm a basket case as I have put all my eggs in one basket..NOT good, I know. Anyway, I'm just curious when you guys get a letter of this kind of importance do you open it or do you prefer someone close to you to open it and break the news to you? I can't even imagine reading the words "we're sorry to inform you" without getting sick. Somehow it seems like it would be easier to hear from a kind, compassionate friend or husband. I know either way you're going to hear the news and maybe it's just me but I can't open this letter. Tell me what you guys do.

I have looked every where myself for them, to no avail. I do know that a composite over 100 is considered average. And your percentile for whatever program you're going into gives you a good idea as to where you stand.Good luck, let me know if you find any

I'm not trying to be sarcastic here at all, please believe that, but I'm a little nervous reading your post. Do instructors teach you this or expect you to learn it yourself? I hope they indeed do spend a great deal of time with med calculations as I would think it's critical to nursing.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! You indeed scored very well...You scored in the 91 percentile, which means you scored better than 91% of the people who took that very same test or only 9 percent of the test takers scored better than you...which ever way you prefer to look at it. I believe from what I was just told, the average composite percentile is 100. You scored 120 so you are well above the average. Take those results and run!!!!!

I'm hoping someone can help me understand some acid-base disorders. I can look at an ABG and determine whether it's acidosis, alkaloisis, compensated or uncompensated. But that's the easy stuff. I have problems determining whether it's renaL compensated or metabolic compensated. It's the HCO3_ that confuses me. Can someone explain to me when the bicarbonate level is below normal what that actually means, same with it being too high. I really appreciate it! Thank you all...

I'm not going to sugar coat anything here...It's gonna be a tough ride with little support. If your husband isn't on board with your dreams, find out why and see if you change his perspective. Some men actually feel threatned when their wives decide to get an education. It's as if they don't want their wives to have the ability to be independant of them. Of course this is not all men, just some. Try to find out what's going on in his head. If you don't get anywhere with him, then you have to decide how much this means to you. If it is really what you want then don't let ANYTHINg get in your way. Not being good in chemistry should not hold you back. There are only a few key concepts in chemistry that you will take with you into nursing. I had to take chemistry twice...failed the first time and got a B the second time around. My husband was quite like yours in respect to what he needed and wanted. He finally left me and our three kids midway through...BUT, I'm still chugging along, though sometimes I don't know how...maybe my dream is carrying me, or maybe God is...whatever it takes, right? The NLN exam is much more difficult than the NET test. The NLN exam has a section of science which covers physics, chemistry, A &P, etc. The NET does not test in science.Whoever told you the NET was harder has not taken the NLN exam. Even admissions directors will tell you this. Good luck!

Okay, first thing you want to do is call the schools you are applying to and find out when and where to take this test. The test is given to measure your aptitude in these areas. Apparently it is a good marker indicating how well you will do in nursing school. If you're not good at reading comprehension (which is BIG on the test) than how will you do well comprehending material you're reading through nursing school. The same with math and science. You can't do med calculations if you don't have the basics of algebra down. And lastly, if you don't understand some of the principles behind the science questions you won't have a chance with the science expected of you in nursing. If you are applying to Abington or Roxborough ( i think you were the one) than you can take this test at Bucks comm. college. I believe they have a cloers testing center in lower moreland at that text school. Either way, call the schools you are interested in and find out the when and wheres. Good luck!!! Oh, and buy the study book (NLN practice entrance exam) and review this stuff.

It is the National League of Nursing pre-entrance exam. It test in math, reading, and science. It is a bit harder than the NET and I believe the same as the TEAS. Hope I helped!

Hi there...I'm a dixon nursing student wanna be...LOL...what have I heard? hmm...let's see. I have heard it's almost impossible to get into the school...LOL. I heard they only take 4.0 students with tons of volunteer experience..LOL. I have heard that the program is fantastic, the teachers are wonderful. I applied two years ago but was rejected because I didn't have enough of the sciences completed at that point to be reviewed. I'm currently on early admission review and will know in January. I have put almost all my eggs in this basket so I will be devastated if I don't make it in. I don't know how much of what I have heard is true, but I do know they are very competative. I believe they take 120 students out of roughly 1200 applicants. tell me about yourself and what you know...we'll compare notes...LOL

Mine is set for early December and I'm just curious as to what they ask during the interview. Hi there...Just took my NLN also so I know they are confusing to understand. This is what I was told by our admissions director. 100 is the average score for composite. Just as the last poster explained there are three columns, diploma based, adn based, and BSN based. If you look at them you will see where you scored against those entering the same programs as you. Also, if you have a score of 54 % that basically means that you scored better than 54 % of those taking the same test, and 46 % of the people taking the test scored better than you. From what I understand they mostly go by your composite score and the score you get for the program you are applying to, ex. DI, ADN, or BSN.I would call your school and make sure they think those scores are acceptable or rather competative for the program you're entering. Good luck!

Gosh, whatever happened to the days when B's were good grades? I happen to still think they are. All this pressure to get A's is crazy isn't it? If they had more teachers to teach nursing school it wouldn't be this way. I hope you find a way around this crap. Good luck! Noele

Thank you both for taking the time to explain that to me. With both your reply's leaning on each other I think I finally grasp the concept of afterload/preload. One little baby step at a time..LOL

Hi there... Is there anyone out there who has had A&P2 and can take a few minutes to explain preload and afterload to me. I have read it too, too many times in many different ways and I'm still not able to envision it (which is what I have to do in order to retain or understand something) So if you can explain with an analogy, all the better. Cheryl, Here is what I was just recently told by my admissions director. They look at the entire picture. This includes any previous medical related work experience, GPA, NLN scores and reference letters. One C will not make you or break you. She also told me that they zone in on your A&P2 grade do to it being more physiology, which is essentially knowing how the body works. A&P1 is more memorization.Try to kick butt on your NLN scoring somewhere in the 85 and up percentile. You're in good shape right now, keep going! And remember the big picture. Good luck!

If you truly have the desire to be a nurse, you'll make it happen. I'm sure you will hear that many times over, but it is really true. It won't be easy and as I'm sure you have read on this board it can take it's toll as you're working towards it. But if it's right for you and you truly know this is your calling, then the work will more times than not, be enjoyable work.It's amazing what one can do, remember and retain when they like the subject matter. I don't believe your high school grades are indicative of whether you have what it takes to be a nurse, only you really know that.You should sit down with your husband and even yourself and explain what it really might be like for them, and you while you're going through school. If you read through these post you can see both the struggles and the inspirational moments and guage whether you think this is for you. It will at least give you some insight. Good luck to you!

Sometimes when something really great happens, something you've been waiting and working so hard for actually happens, nerves set in. It's the ol' "waiting for the other shoe to drop" feeling. The last post said exactly what I think is happening to you. Hold on, it may pass, maybe not tomorrow but it should. Good luck to you. And remember, you have worked really hard to get where you are, don't even entertain the idea of quitting. If you follow through with this you will never have to worry about good vs. bad schools for your child. Maybe you're a little burnt out and need some time to recharge. If that's it, take it, but keep going. Hugs!

Like others have said, only you know what you can do, BUT I strongly suggest against it. Those are two really tough courses. You won't know that you got in over your head til your sinking...and then it's too late. Good luck to you!

Hi, The fact that you just took algebra is great since that was the hardest math they cover on the test and even that was very easy...simple algebra. As far as the other stuff covered...I would say buy the NLN entrance exam book. I think it cost like 40 dollars but was well worth it. The reading comprehension part of the exam seemed like it was tricky for some people only because they give you an hour and there was quite a few different articles to read and then answer questions on. Try to increase your reading time by doing the practice exams in the book. That hour they give you also includes vocabulary questions. Good luck to you.
