  1. I work at Rush, the kid from Italy had an entire wing of the hospital to himself! All the news trucks were parked outside. It was crazy.
  2. It’s tough cause your a new nurse but, standard of practice is to check INR before giving Coumadin. Move on, build on knowledge, you’ll never do it again ?
  3. The way I figure, he wouldn't be able to "consent " to anything after general anesthesia! People have lost their minds! I will definitely clarify all this at the Country Club Christmas Party! Lol
  4. Right, denies need for pain med at this time. Exactly. I have to believe this pt would have had an issue either way:/
  5. Yah, that's what I thought too! But my charge nurse said "well, did he?" I was offended that she was even entertaining the complaint. I said to her "well, he didn't object!" Uuuuuggghhh!
  6. PACU BSN RN CPAN Illinois/Indiana
  7. Yes, give yourself more time. You seem very conscientious and that's a good quality in nursing. I cried a lot my first year. On the floor is very overwhelming, but after some experience, you can move to a specialty area if you wish.

Patient complained in post op phone call that he did not give his "consent" for Fentanyl in pacu for post op pain. He was my pt and did not object when instructed what I was giving him, what it is for, when it will start to work and how. I was called by my charge nurse and questioned about it. Never had this happen before, 21 years of nursing. Are we supposed to now document that pt agrees to pain medication administration? How far will we have to go to protect our practice? Please advise.
  9. Hey sis is right. 2 RNs one of which must be proficient in Phase I recovery. It's a standard of care and if your policy states that you follow aspan guidelines then that's your ammo!!
  10. I used Zander weekend seminar as part of my preparation for CPAN. Trish was awesome (instructor). Plus 3 months of studying with multiple resources! Passed!!

Well ya'll, since then I am now CPAN certified and familiar with ASPAN standards of care. Now after some employee turnover because of the additional call implementation, I am the one my fellow nurses turn to when they have a question! You are right! I hung in there!!
  12. My husband doesn't know and probably wouldn't care...I love sharing things with other nurses. ..they are the only ones who could possibly understand. ..plus I learn a lot from other nurses circumstances..thank God for allnurses!!
  13. Give them your two week notice..they may let you leave immediately since you are still in orientation...just plan on not working there again

    Ok..I will look it up!!

You are so right...the charge rn is now punishing me by having me do 3 to 4x the amt of call then anyone else...I am documenting everyday I work and what goes on in specifics and also bringing the schedule to my managers attention...they are trying to push me out...but not without me excersizing my rights first. This is a classic tale of harassment and bullying..I thought I was done with that in 6th grade!! Unbelievable. I will post what happens next.
