Any one CLEP'd sociology??
I CLEP'd Intro Sociology, Intro Psychology. I had previously studied for Excelsior's Developmental Psychology and didn't do any additional studying for the CLEPs. I scored high enough for an A. I found them very easy and was finished in about an hour both times. Best of luck, Gina

EC CPNE workshop
I took the CPNE in Feb of this year. Passed with no repeats. I went to CHE workshop in San Jose, California. There were several people there that had already been to the Excelsior workshop and said they did not feel they were prepared after taking it. They said it was crowded and many of the questions that were asked of the instructors were not answered because "That's not what we're here for" whatever that means. Read the reviews on at www.cheducation.com and you will find many people raving about how wonderful it was. It was a very intense 12 hours per day for 4 days. There is a huge classroom with stations and hospital beds set up just as you will find at the CPNE. She will not accept more students than she has epuipment to allow ample practice time. There were 15 or so people in the class when I took it. Everyone passed the first time. The average pass rate for the CPNE is around 66 percent. The cost is 500 dollars and as a student you can stay at the Holiday Inn Express for half price. I would definately recommend that workshop before the CPNE if you can possible afford it. CAUTION: It is definately possible to pass the CPNE without taking a workshop but YOU WILL NOT PASS IF YOU DO NOT STUDY!!!! Everything that is expected of you is in the Study Guide. It is not enough to say, of course I can do an abdominal assessment or respiritory assessment, you have to do it including every step listed in the study guide and in many cases in the correct order. WHATEVER YOU DECIDE TO DO, DO NOT "WING IT"!!! Good luck to you, Gina, RN BTW, I took my CPNE at Grady Memorial in Atlanta. Everyone was fair and sometimes even a little forgiving. Noone went out of their way to increase your stress level. It was a pretty good experience for us all. Six people tested, six people passed!!

Nursing skill book
http://www.amazon.com/Guide-Nursing-Skills-Sandra-Smith/dp/0838581749/sr=1-10/qid=1158242012/ref=sr_1_10/002-7866841-4327205?ie=UTF8&s=books Photo Guide of Nursing Skills That book was recommended to me by several people and it is great. It has detailed pictures of the procedures and a couple of sentences explaining what you see in the picture. A lot better that just reading how to do it. I bought mine on Ebay for around 20 bucks. Good Luck, Gina

Violent Sex Offender on our unit (long)...
Call his parole officer every day, twice a day. Get your co-workers to call also. Tell him every thing the rapist does that could possibly be inappropriate. Don't be afraid of a little hyperbole. If you don't get the parole officer to make a move based on clearly preditory behavior, call the parole officer's supervisor. Don't let it go. If "we the public" are lucky, maybe his parole will be violated and he will go back to jail. Three years is not enough for rape. ""Check on"" the rapist's medical condition so much that he almost thinks he's being harrassed. Don't even let him breath without being observed. Never look intimidated by him. It makes you look weak, he would like that. It makes him think you would be easy prey. Find a way to surreptitiously warn all the females in the area that he is there. Just make sure they can't prove it was you who spread the word if you are in danger of losing your job for telling. I think the sex offender registry is a matter of public record and absolutely no violation of HIPPA for you to discuss it. The only ethical violation would be if he did not receive the proper medical treatment because of it.

A Fellow Nurse Called Her Patient an A......
One other thing that no one has mentioned; Watch yourself! She will probably looking to take advantage of anything you do that may not by the book, even if she has to distort a few facts to make you look bad. She's already proven to you she's not above lying. Good luck, Gina

Please help-I cannot get a job (LONG)
Try talking to the hospital administrator at the hospital you were working. He/She is less likely to have an axe to grind and has the power to change your re-hire eligibility status after a review of your employment records. Good luck, Gina

Is it true?!?! Say it aint so...
Why do you have to know what it's like to be on the other side of the speculum? What do male nurses have to endure to meet this requirement? This is ridiculous and I would absolutley refuse to participate. If they refuse to let me continue with my studies to graduation, I would sue the he!! out of them. Gina

Cpne
There is no way you can just wing this exam. You absolutely must know the critical elements for each area of care. Find or make up a mnemonics for everything and have all them etched into your brain so that when you haven't looked at it for six months, you'll still be able to recite them. You don't want to spend a lot of time trying to remember what do to while your on a 2.5 hour time limit. There is plenty of time to finish and double check your work if you have planned well. I just passed this weekend at Grady in Atlanta. The examiners were all friendly and fair. At least 5 of 6 passed. I'm still trying to find out about one who had to retest one pcs, all the rest of us passed with only one person having to retest a lab, no other repeats. I recommend the site, but I believe you can go to any site and pass if you are prepared. I went to a workshop in San Jose, California. It is not affiliated with Excelsior but the instructor is a former excelsior graduate. I feel that taking that workshop was instrumental in my success. The web site is www.cheducation.com . Go to the testimonials and read what her students have said about her class and how it effected there success. I've heard several people that have gone to her class, the Excelsior workshop and Chancellor's and they've all said hers was the best, hands down. It is also the most affordable at 500 dollars for 4 twelve hour days. You have to remind her to take bathroom breaks. She packs in a lot of information in those 4 days. All of the people that were in the workshop with me except for one have already taken the CPNE. All of them passed, most of them with no repeats. The last one will take hers in May. That's a pass rate of 100% so far out of my workshop. The average pass rate is less than 70% for all CPNE takers. You can pass this thing without taking a workshop, but this will give you confidence, experience with the labs, as she has several of each lab station set up just like at the CPNE lab, and I believe it will greatly improve your chance of success. Good luck, Gina Graduate Nurse

looking for some friendly advice about CPNE
I'm from Louisiana also, between Hammond and Baton Rouge. Where are you? I just passed my CPNE this weekend at Grady in Atlanta. Grady is probably the biggest hospital in the area and if you go there you almost definately have a pediatric patient. Hughes Spalding is right across the road and is attached through an underground walkway. There were six that started and I know for sure 5 passed the entire CPNE. One of those five had to retake one lab station. The one I don't know about failed one PCS in the planning phase. She used to risk for dx's on her care plan and the book tells you repeatedly, one of the dx's must be an actual problem and the other may be an actual problem or something the pt is at risk for. She just got nervous and forgot. I think SRMC is a smaller hospital on the outskirts of Altanta (Riverdale, maybe?) I've been told the examiner's move around the different hospitals in the area and you can never say who is going to be there for sure. I found the examiners and the CA very fair and friendly. The never gave any of us the impression they were out to get us. I only had one really major problem and they discussed it, decided that it was something out of my control and gave me another option on completing the area of care. They could've made me repeat an entire PCS over it if they'd wanted. So with that, I passed with no repeats, yeah!!! Send me an e-mail at gina_strahan at yahoo dot com and we will talk further. Gina

english 101 @ excelsior....vent
I took the 6 credit (3 essay responses in 3 hours) test. I made a big fat D. . I wound up taking English Comp 101 over a 6 week summer course at a local community college. I think the summer classes are much more laid back than the regular terms. What ever you do, stay the course. I just passed my CPNE this weekend. I can't believe it's finally over, whew. I feel like the weight of the world has been lifted off of my shoulders. :roll :roll :roll :roll :roll Good luck, Gina
