  1. Hello, I will be graduating from my ADN RN program in December and will right away continuing on to a BSN completion program. My question is can I already start applying to knew grad positions even though I still 3 month out from graduation? and probably 4 month out from taking my boards. Just for some background context I live in suburbs of Minneapolis mn. Thanks in advance.
  2. Nevermind you commented on my other post! whoops, congrats again I am dreaming of the day that I am in your shoes!!
  3. Thank you for the reply! and congratulation on graduating! Did you decide to continue on with metro or are you going a different route?
  4. Thank you for your reply. What do you do during the times you met up? Does the program consist of a lot exams, papers, or busy work?
  5. Thank you for this information!
  6. Hello PedsRN, I am currently looking into St. Scholastica RN-BSN, I plan on working around 24 hours a week as well as having plenty of family time for my three year old. Do you think if I went full time with the RN-BSN program, I would be able to achieve this balance? Also if you don't mind me asking, where you able to achieve a good GPA throughout the program? Thanks in advance! -Taber
  7. Looking for advice on RN-BSN programs available in Minnesota. Currently I am in a MANE program, which is associated with Metro State.. but I have heard the Metro program is very rigorous for no good reason. Plus it isn't completely online which is something I am interested in. I would love to here from people who have experienced the Metro program or other RN-BSN programs. Thanks in advance.
  8. Hey did you end up continuing on with Metro?? Curious because I am currently in the ADN portion of the mane program with NCC and am debating on whether I will continue with metro or not.

I know this is an old post.. But out of wishful thinking I was wondering if any of you could shed some light on Metro or St. Mary's RN-BSN completion program?
  10. Hello! I am currently a nursing student at Normandale Community College, and will be graduating in December 2017. Right after graduation I will be continuing right away with a BSN completion program. I was wondering how likely it is that I will be hired at a hospital with just my associates degree as I finish off my BSN? Another side note I don't have any healthcare experience outside of my schooling. Thanks in advance.
  11. Hello! I am currently enrolled in the Normandale Mane program in my second semester of the nursing program and I absolutely am happy with my choice. The program is very rigorous and will keep you busy... not to mention it was quite competitive to even get in. As far as going on to earn a BSN at metro... I think I will continue with them only because the programs were really meant to continue from one to another. Other schools it is possible I would have to re-do credits, also I will be graduating in December of 2017.. So most other completion programs require you to have already passed the nclex, which would really set me a semester behind. My recommendation is to NOT go to rasmussen for your RN, because like you said they aren't accredited and your job outlook will be slim. I would also recommend when you get to the point of applying to apply to multiple MANE schools, some are more competitive than others just due to the amount of people they accept each semester.. For instance Normandale accepts 48 a semester whereas just by word of mouth I have heard Century accepts like 70 something and Anoka-Ramsey like a 100 and something?Anyways good luck!
  12. Hello nurses! I am currently in school for my BSN. Right now I am not trying to look too far into the future, because I know I need to first graduate.. However, I do have a desire to in the future go back to school to earn a advance degree to be a midwife. I have looked into a couple programs and now I am realizing how much I really don't know! I have seen programs to simply get a masters in science for nurse midwife, and I have seen programs to get a DNP as a nurse midwife. I am just wondering what is the difference as far as practice between these two degrees? And could you just share your experience with choosing a program (what was your gpa, how competitive was it to get into the program, how many years did you work as a nurse before applying). Thank you very much, I really appreciate all the help I can get.
  13. Has anyone heard from Normandale yet? I was already accepted last apply date for fall 2016 into the program, but I am curious if anyone has gotten a letter for this round (spring 2017) from Normandale.
  14. Hello, I got into Normandale with a 4.0 gpa and 79.3 on my teas for the fall cohort of 2016, but in all honesty I think I was literally the last one to be accepted into the program when letters first went out, of course now more people below me have gotten in through the wait list. I am a terrible standardized test taker so the fact that I got a 79.3 made me so happy! I scored higher than 79.3 on everything, but the english section reallly brought me down. Also on side note Normandale is well respected throughout the community, and has the smallest nursing student cohorts out of all mane schools, so I really believe I will becoming out of school a very well rounded nurse. I strongly recommend Normandale if you get accepted! Anyways, I was also wondering when do you guys expect to get you letters? I am only wondering because my friend applied to century and normandale; and I don't want to keep asking if she got her letter and make her anxious. So if you have any insight on when you expect to get your letters I would love to know!
  15. It is, I just went on Facebook and asked to be added!
  16. Awesome! I am in the normandale fall cohort 2016 so I will definitely go on Facebook and join the group!
  17. They don't even process them tell July 1st. This could be due to budget concerns, and they just want to allow time for waitlists to be rolled through, so they have a pretty stable list of people who will be attending for sure in the fall.
  18. Every school looks at different classes to apply into the program so ya I am sure ARCC you have to have the Chem requirement. I know at normandale you actually have to have two chemistry classes and have to have a biochemistry/organic Chem class to apply. It is strange that they are all a little different. Like I said I got into the normandale program, but I was so nervous that I looked at pretty much every post in regards to the MANE program and it seemed to me ARCC is the easiest program to get into. I don't think this discredits the program, I just think it is because they let so many people in. I knew someone with a 11.22 ranking who was accepted right away... that can only mean the people on the waitlist who get in probably have high 10 rankings. I just thought I would throw this out there to anyone feeling like giving up...there are other options! I have heard bad things about Rasmussen college and I would try avoid going there...it could end up in a complete waste of your money and time.
  19. Thank you I needed to hear this! I am actually a loner by nature, I am not one to need constant social interaction... it is just when you are missing family members birthdays, outings with my son, and simple just being a family it gets me down. I always tell myself this temporary, but it just feels good to hear it from someone else. Thank you both for the reply!
  20. Just an FWI to some of you I have looked at all MANE post on here like hawk since Feb 1st. I did end up getting into normandale with a 11.93 ranking. But through looking at all the post I have gotten a good feel on acceptance rates of schools. It seems like Anoka Ramsey is the easiest MANE program to get into, most likely because they accept the most people. An 11.22 ranking for Anoka Ramsey might actually get you a forsure spot in the program... just food for thought. Although I did see that someone got into century's program after being waitlisted last apply date with a 10.89 ranking or something, so who knows you might make it into century. Good luck!
  21. Hello everyone! First off I would like to say I am so grateful to be in nursing school. I am pursing a life long dream to become nurse, and by no means need to be talked off the ledge of dropping out of nursing school. I love nursing school! I am writing this because I have found as I have gone through the years of nursing school, I have become socially isolated and starting to feel withdrawn. It is hard to constantly not be able to do anything outside of studying, and it starting to bring me down. I have a son and boyfriend who are my life and not mention the only people I really see outside of school. I am wondering if anyone has felt similar to this, and if anyone has any words of encouragement. I even find myself being sort of up tight all the time, because of how I am feeling. And no I don't need anti depression pills..I am not depressed! I know what it feels like to be depressed, I more feel socially isolated. Thank you! ps. please don't make any negative comments on this post... That is the last thing I need right now!
  22. I wouldn't asume that getting an associates degree is not as competitive. A lot of people get their AS first because it is a cheaper route. I just got into a community college with a 4.0, and the average GPA of who go into the program was a 3.8. However in this program you are dually admitted into metropolitan state university to get your BSN after earning your AS. But even with that being said I have even heard that AS programs depending where you are in the country can be more competitive than BSN programs. I frankly agree with alot people on this post.. if you cant get a least a B in your sciences classes then I don't know how you think you can be a midwife. And I don't mean to be rude or negative. I am just being honset being a midwife is a huge responsibilty. What makes alot of the science classes hard is you have to retain alot of information and wrap your mind around alot of difficult material. This is something you will have to do all the time as a midwife. Why not do it right and ace your science classes? I don't think you need find a new path to get your BSN I think you just need to refocus your energy. You can do this!
  23. I got an A in A&P 1 and I think what really help me is I recorded the lectures, and while I was making my notecards I listened to the lectures. I would also have my book in front of me to look at the figures while listening to the lecture. All of this helped me make sense of the material in my head. As far as lab stuff goes I used quizlet for all my lab practicals. I bought the a membership so I could add pictures to the flashcards. This helped so much for spelling, and identify the varies parts. Even for microscope stuff I found pictures from the Internet, and add them to my notes. I seriously spent probably 30 hours a week studying, and preparing study material. But it paid off I ended with a 98% in the class and I just got into nursing school. Keep your head up; I had so many people doubt my ability to do well in college, and I let it be my motivation to prove everyone wrong. I know there are nursing schools out there that don't move you down in points for retaking a class. You might have to yet again move schools, but nothing should hold you back from achieving your dream.
  24. A 2.98 is a low GPA for nursing no matter what school she is trying to get in. That doesn't mean she isn't capable of doing better, it just means she has to put in the effort to retake her science classes and get better grades. Alot of people want to be a nurse but you can't be in this profession without a lot of hard work and dedication.
  25. I can't tell you how many times I have heard that I was smart to take Chem and Anatomy separate. I am a mother of a two year old. So therefore I have other commitments outside of school. Alot of people who take those classes together are just students or only working part time. My view point is why risk it, the goal is to get into nursing school. You have a much better chance of getting the grade you want if you take them separate. In the end nobody can tell you what is best, you have to look within.
