  1. Only accept pre-reqs within 1 year. I know, it sucks!
  2. I started last year. There is no waitlist. It is competitive. But if you don't get in the first try, try again. You'll eventually get in.
  3. Study the TEAS yellow book from Amazon. That's the best $20! Basic math, English, sciences. Focus on chem (I got a bunch of chem questions) and basic biology. If you don't pass the 1st time, that's ok! Try again! Believe me a bunch of people take the TEAS 2 or 3 times. [not me] There are many applicants throughout the year. Seems like a new cohort starts every 3-4 months. There is no waitlist, you will eventually get in if you don't make the deadline for the upcoming cohort. Just keep in contact with your admissions advisor. I'm in the ADN now and honestly, this is a very accelerated program once you start your core nursing classes. The first 3 quarters are your pre-reqs. Develop good study habits from the start. Get a study group! Attend tutoring sessions. Talk to classmates. Don't be shy! ASK QUESTIONS!
  4. Did you start in April?
  5. Not in April cohort. I pushed back. So now starting June 2018. What happened to you?
  6. Awesome! I'm going tomorrow to finish up my paperwork. Eek! Nervous about the DON interview.
  7. Omg! Congrats! Maybe we'll be in the same cohort? How was the interview? I'll send you a private message as well.
  8. I just passed the TEAS! Yay. Applying to CNI College for April 2nd, 2018 start date. Anyone else?
  9. I'm trying to get in. It's what works best for me. And yes they do take pre-read.
  10. WGU is a BSN.
  11. There is no LVN to BSN online. At least not yet. The CA BRN does not recognize any online LVN to BSN program at this time. Everything is ok site thus far. Only traditional RN ADN or BSN is accredited and recognized by the BRN. Hope this helps.
  12. Oh! Great. I was thinking of probably starting in November too. I am an LVN already. I want to do the RN program now.
  13. I just ordered the book. I'm glad there's an app! No excuses. I will download the app to my phone. I am scheduled in June! Excited and nervous.
  14. Hi. Anybody else applying or currently attending CNI? I just had s tour and met with an advisor. I have some reservations but I am going to consider this school. Best route for LVN to take? Anybody have insight?
  15. Nurse: Oh no, sir! You can't leave the hospital without your planned prostate surgery! Patient: Nooo! You caught me, nurse. I'm signing out AMA.
  16. Every nurse wishes for this to be done at home ... Silence for a minute.
  17. Walkey-talkey: when a patient is ambulatory, walking around the nurses station and chatting it up with other patients, families, nurses and other stuff. As a case manager, if you're walkey-talkey, time to phone the doc for a T. O. , discharge home.
  18. 1. You never stop learning something new every day. 2. As the nurse, we advocate for our patients. 3. Stand up to doctors in regards to patient safety. 4. Always trust your gut. 5. Teamwork will make the day run a little better, less chaotic, and more fun!
  19. No! I can't answer any more questions. I'm off the clock.
  20. My patient on the floor, with their call light in hand.
  21. Hi there. I would like to know what your usual case load runs in? For example, I work in Los Angeles, California and in my career, this has been my case load: DC Planner - up to 75 patients for a 350 bed hospital. - up to 100 patients for a 450 or so bed hospital. Case Manager in IPA/Medical Group - Acute/Inpatient: 1-30 patients (concurrent/daily review) - Outpatient, Case/Care management up to 100 patients assigned (not daily) Case Manager in 120 bed hospital - up to 55 patients (average 20/day) I hope this makes sense. I really want to see what the actual case load is. I am doing research for a future article. :) Thank you all!
  22. Congratulations!!!!! Way to go, Doc! You're embarking on a new journey and more fun. Yay!

We all need a little reminding here and there. Any time you feel tired, or feel lack of energy, remember that it's temporary. It's only for a little while until you reach your goal. Meditation! Which reminds me I haven't done it in a while lol! I gotta take that up again. Light up a scented candle. Close your eyes. Breathe. Relax your mind. Shut everything out even if it's for 10 minutes. We all could use a little bit of that.
  24. Wow! Really warmed my heart. This IS the reason to be a nurse. To experience these not-so-happy moments in other people's lives. And to experience defeat, and the triumph when a patient bounces back to near prior level of function. This is amazing! This is what it's like to be a nurse. Not always sad, not always with great results. This is when we learn real life lessons that others don't get to experience. Thank you for sharing this.
