  1. I apologize but thanks for the passive aggressive post , reinforces why allnurses is becoming the MySpace of nursing and I prefer Black Nurses Rock on FB . Be blessed ???
  2. If you would’ve read below the post I apologized , no ones perfect we make mistakes ? I went to a brick a mortar didn’t do online
  3. My apologies , I looked it up and looks like some schools have a virtual lab portion . I was always told the lab had to be in person .
  4. How did you do a lab online when you need to look at slides in a microscope , identify layers if the skin, and pass a lab exam ? California would deny your licensure.
  5. All the comments above basically covered what to do when interacting with a MD. As a new nurse it feels a bit uncomfortable to call the doc since the experience isn’t there to be fluid but once you have more interactions you get comfortable , having all the pertinent info SBAR trending labs and vitals without being afraid to suggest without demanding will usually get them to listen . Some docs can be authoritative and won’t listen, that’s when I would go up chain of command to my charge and house sup usually helped .
  6. It depends on what you feel comfortable doing , I currently do telehealth triage and I love it . I also do case management , all remote position that affords me the ability to help patients and work from home. My boss is super supportive and I don’t feel micromanaged as my last job in the hospital . I had to leave the CM at the hospital job because of rampant discrimination due to my disability, I was basically humiliated in a daily basis and resigned but was blessed to get a position working from home .
  7. There’s no such thing as an online RN program , entry level for RN is either ADN, through the LPN to RN route, or diploma. All those routes you have to go to class in order to get clinical with the classes together . She needs pre-reqs first such as English 1 and 2 , statistics , Microbiology with lab , anatomy and physiology 1 and 2 with lab and a sociology course. You can’t do labs online , they have to be done in a brick and mortar . My advice is to go to community college and do those pre-reqs, get high GPA and then apply to an RN program or do LPN for a year then bridge to RN.
  8. Hi everyone , I just wanted to report that I was finally able to find a permanent position within the hospital as a case manager ? after many years of applications and failed interviews I was finally hired ! I was able to find a job in telehealth first and then hired on as a case manager ? thanks everyone for their advance and just wanted to let everyone know not to ever give up and things will happen with persistence . have a blessed holiday ! And praying for good things for 2021 ??
  9. I read the thread mentioned, the difference is I don’t hate patients and dont want to totally leave interacting with patients . It’s a conditions that is out of my control and God put on my lap for some reason , I love the care aspect and interactions . SineQuanon thanks for the suggestion I’m going to do that , I’ve always had luck popping up at the nursing dept at places and getting jobs that way . I’m just a honest type of person and like to put stuff up front but I guess in this case I will do that .
  10. Hi , when I first started nursing in New York City I had a difficult time finding hospital based work due to facilities wanting experience . My advice would be to apply to facilities and areas of your preferences first since some are lucky to get hired as new grads ( city hospitals tend to hire new grads more often) . If you don’t hear back apply to nursing homes to get some experience under your belt to re-apply to facilities you want to work at. Every specialty in the hospital has pros and cons , I preferred ER since it’s fast paced and the shift goes by quickly. Some prefer pacu/ICU/or/cath lab since you deal with a certain amount of pt. It’s all boils down to what setting you want to work in and what type of pace you can handle. Much success in your job hunt .
  11. Hi guys I just wanted advice for any nurse regarding finding employment after disability. I was a ER nurse with background in oncology/MS for 5 years when due to spinal disease during an assignment in California I was left disabled in a wheelchair . Since that time I had to go through rehab and put my life back together with the new norm of living as a disabled person . I’m now trying to reenter nursing but am hitting roadblocks . Recruiters contact me but once I inform of my disability instantly stop communicating with me , I feel slighted and discriminated against because I have so much to give and my disability doesn’t stop me from helping others . I was thinking of just obtaining my nurse practitioner education but afraid of hitting these same roadblocks once I finish. It’s frustating that a caregiver who has helped so much in the community gets treated as expired goods once they are deemed defective . Any advice is helpful and appreciated. nom
  12. I totally disagree with the other comments suggesting to run or quit. That is the wrong message to send that nurse bullying is tolerated. I felt that same way , I had a coworker who was jealous due to my hiring on staff and him being agency for a few years without an offer. He made my orientation on the unit unbearable and made rude comments to push me out the unit. I reported it to the unit manager who intervened and had a meeting , since then I do my job and this person does theirs without any interference. Do not give up your position for anyone , you worked hard to get there and no one can push you out but you. Have a meeting with the unit and discuss the situation and apologize for cursing, acknowledge her strengths and just thank her for trying to help you. At the end she probably wasn't thrilled about precepting ontop of having her own patients to deal with. Discuss a possible transfer to another unit if the situation can't be fixed, but don't leave your position until you get some experience under your belt .
  13. Hi cris, my advice for you would be not to give up . I had a lot going on before starting RN school which delayed me from getting started. I was the only support for myself having to work and in the beginning of nursing school being diagnosed with cancer, I thought I could handle school and getting chemo followed by radiation but my first cycle I was ill in the hospital for a month. I bombed a few of my pre-reqs which I had As in all I needed was a final which I couldn't complete receiving an F . I took a semester off which my dean advised, coming back stronger than ever completing my RN ADN. I am going for BSN now , didn't do well online and had to abandon that and now finishing at another school which is going great. You will get to your goal if you are persistent and really want to be a nurse. My biggest help was the support from my nursing school family , we helped each other over those hurdles studying our butts off , make those connections they are vital to your success in school .
