  1. Carl Winslow thank you for sharing your story and struggle throughout the licensing process. I live in AZ and have a misdemeanor DUI from 2010 and I graduate this May. I am so worried about getting my ATT and being able to sit for NCLEX. Your story gives me a lot of hope!
  2. Hey Rachael! You've answered some of my questions in the past. Thanks for the response! Are you a New Grad? If my memory serves me correctly it wasn't long ago you were a student. I really want to land in the ICU or the ER as a new grad. It seems more difficult to get into the ER as a tech than the ICU.
  3. Hey all, i am looking for some information about Banner in general. I work in the HH system but have been casually offered a position at a Banner ICU as an aide. Is anyone within the Banner Network able to answer some questions for me. I've heard a lot of contradictory information. Do they offer Tuiton reimbursement or prepayment? I have prepayment right now and it is absolutely amazing. I've heard that Banner no longer offers any tuition assistance. Are aides able to ‘self schedule'? I get to make my own schedule right now and use as much or little PTO as I want during the the semester. In general are your managers flexible with scheduling? Are PCAs at Banner still able to do Foley's, etc. We are not longer able to at HH and would like to be some where I can continue to use my skills. thanks so much!
  4. Thanks for the info. I hope they keep this going I would love to do block 3 over the summer next year!
  5. When did you hear about block 3/4 over the summer? Any additional information would appreciated!
  6. Not yet, check this link for updates. https://asa.maricopa.edu/sites/default/files/Fall%202017%20NURSE%20PLACEMENT%20IS%20IN%20PROCESS.pdf
  7. Tiahna, Can you clarify why you are worried about getting placed as Traditional? I've recently had some correspondence with district and a response to one of my questions led me to believe that IF we don't make the cut for CEP this round that we may still get placed as a Traditional? Is that what you mean by your above statement? Thanks!
  8. I saw one post for someone who was accepted to UIU/SCC... I am waiting on UIU/MCC...
  9. Hi AmberinAZ, I am happy to share my experience thus far with you! I turned in my CEP application with MCC on December 24th, just after Grades posted from the Fall semester. The advisor told me that for the last placement cycle, Mesa had 85 CEP spots available and they had 75 applicants. Therefore, no CEP applicants were turned away. In the future, as the CEP program becomes more popular, there is a chance students will be turned away. Ive spoken with the UIU advisor many times since turning in my application, she has assured it is very likely that I will begin my UIU classes in May and my MCC classes in the Fall. This is because there isn't currently any wait list at UIU. As long as a student meets the minimum requirements, they will begin the semester following submitting their application. To to be honest, your best bet is to call the UIU advisor or meet with her in person to look over your unofficial transcripts. She will be able to give you the best estimation for your personal situation. She is super awesome! Her contact information can be found on the UIU CEP application from the Maricopa Nursing website or private message me! Best of luck!
  10. AZBlueBell, thank you for sharing your experience. I might choose the hybrid, it just depends on what MCCCD school I am placed at. My first choice is Mes Day (UIU Hybrid compatible), then Mesa Afternoon (mostly UIU Hybrid compatible), and Gateway Day (not Hybrid compatible). Plus I know of students who were offered last minute placements at MCCCD schools that weren't on their list initially. I live in Ahwatukee, so the drive isn't an issue for me. It really comes down to placement, because I really do prefer some in-person class time, plus I'd love to bond with my cohort while there. I KNOW I am going to need buddies! -Can you explain further how your first online class was so challenging? -What else did you get out of the in-person class time besides being able to complete assignments? -Was it lecture heavy? Or more of a time to work on those assignments? -Are the online discussion questions and responses only for the online students? As a hybrid student did you not have to complete these? How awesome is it to have MCCCD instructors at UIU! Thank you for your input. I truly appreciate your perspective!
  11. Rachaelofcourse, you are always an informative source of information. Thank you so much! I called the advisor at UIU and we got it all figured out.
  12. I know the UIU CEP program is newer than others and not a lot of cohorts have been through it. I am vexxed between chosing which to do. I prefer face to face classes. The hybrid program spends 3-4 hours every other week in the classroom setting while the online program is strictly that. Can anyone lend their expirence? How did you chose which you would do? I understand that some of the MCCCD campuses nursing schedules don't correlate well with the UIU hybrid program and now limit the hybrid students to Mesa, Scottsdale and, Glendale program only. I am considering taking PSY230 w/ MCCCD in place of MAT220 w/ UIU for my beginning summer semster. Strictly because once you choose between hybrid or online with UIU you must remain in the specificed program. For my personal needs, taking Stats ONLINE and in 8 WEEKS is a recipe for disaster. Therefore taking with MCCCD in person in the Spring would be better. I am not interested in taking the hybrid program w. UIU. I would prefer to do online.... but that Stats would be an issue. Anyhow, any insight is appreciated.
  13. Interesting! This is new information to me. Can you post a link to this? How did you find out about this program? I'd also love to hear from anyone that has done this in the past.
  14. Go right now. I was the first student the advisor saw today and there were no other students waiting when I left.
  15. The UIU advisor is alway returns my calls and emails ASAP, usually the same day. It is easy to see that she cares about students and answers questions in a straight forward manner. Rachaelofcourse, are you a CNA at Banner? I take my state test next month. I've heard that CNAs at Banner are self scheduling. I've also heard that many of those positions are non-benefited. I plan on working as a CNA while in the CEP program, how has your experience been with this? I appreciate any insight you have to offer!
  16. Good luck applying today. I've been trying to submit my CEP application since yesterday and an advisor won't even see me until they are done with Advanced Placement students. I'll be at MCC all day tomorrow until the advisor can see me. They are currently down to only one advisor at the moment and they go on winter break beginning Thursday until January 3rd. As far as what school is better, in my opinion that question is answered based off your perspective. UIU is my first choice (due to cost) and ASU is my second choice. I truly believe that your ability, dedication, and attitude will further down the road than what school is on your Diploma. The accreditation is equal and that is what will matter when you are ready to peruse an advanced degree. My two cents!
  17. Do you have any work experience from other fields? A lot of the entry level positions at HH are customer service based such a patient admitting (you will learn a lot about insurance, but doesn't require and experience or degree), working in the cafeteria (serving food, being a cashier or working in the Peets coffee bar), working in Endoscopy (cleaning scopes), patient transport (literally wheeling patients, in beds or wheelchairs to procedures and picking them up and returning them to their rooms, or as a Diet Rep (a phone position where you take patients orders, and help run carts of food upstairs to the rooms). The work, to me, is very easy. It is a lot of common sense stuff. It has been really great to get to know the nurses and techs, and to make those connections. I truly believe that these connections, and having been in the hospital system, will be a great assistance when it comes being offered a job as a RN!
  18. I've already stated the hospital I work at. MANY companies offer tuition benefits! You only need to be a part-time employee working 16 hours per week to be eligible. I know people are going to school to be nurses, teachers, some who are business majors. Companies invest in their people hoping they get to keep a great employee who is ambitious.. they don't walk around holding money and ridiculous terms and conditions over your head.
  19. This is not the case at the hospital I work at. I am currently in a non-patient care position, making a living wage with benefits and earning PTO, while they pay for my nursing degree.
  20. I anticipated a respone such as this, I didn't expect for it to come so soon! Gosh! Thank you for this valuable information. Where would I BE without your insight.
  21. Hi TueyOliver, We have some things in common, similar age, married (DH=spouse?), I am not eligible for Federal Aid....its a whole maximum time frame thing, I have a 'vocational' degree from an 'un'accredited program where nothing will transfer. This was a big deal for me and my husband, without Aid we've been paying for my pre-reqs out of pocket while I've been working full-time and overtime. Next week, for the first time in ten years, I am going from a full-time worker to part-time. Admittedly, I would LOVE to not work at all, we could technically take out private loans to fund my education, but we just won't. My husband has an Accounting degree and does well, I don't have to work. BUT here is the kicker...if you work for a hospital they will PRE-PAY up to $5,252 of healthcare related degree. Perhaps, if you are willing to work part-time during nursing school you can get some "free" $$$ . I work for HonorHealth, and the requirement is that you work 36 hours per pay period (every 2 weeks) to be eligible. Just something to think about. SaveSave
  22. So I will go first. I am taking Micro205, Com225 and NUR158 (12 credits) at MCC in the upcoming semester, while working 4-8's. I have been putting Micro off for a while now knowing I had plenty of time to complete it but also because I am super intimidated by it. Now, I am taking it with an instructor that I have heard marvelous things about, she only uses her own notes that she writes on the white board and the MCC lab manual. My question for those who have taken Micro at a MCCCD school: What do you wish you would have known before beginning this class? Am I just psyching myself out... it just SEEMS like a lot of material for this one class. Is there anything specific I should review from 181, 201 or 202 before the beginning of the semester? Can anyone offer study tips for this class? Thank you!
  23. Hello all, I wanted to start this post as a place for us to ask questions as Pre-Nursing or Waitlisted students. As a place to ask questions or to seek a perspective on a specific course, study technique, or just to share information and advice if you are a seasoned Nursing student. Have a blast!
  24. Mine came back in 11 days.
