  1. That is the worst been through nursing school twice, LPN then RN and I hated having a lecture and someone always had a story about their aunts sisters cousins friends daughters boyfriend, and I would get so sick of it and roll my eyes and scream on the inside. I HATED IT AND THEM AT THE TIME, I had been a tech and a monitor tech before nursing school had seen alot but I managed to hold back all those stories, why did they and did they not know they were getting on everyones nerves and the instructors especially:bluecry1: PLEASE MAKE THEM SHUT UP THAT'S WHAT I USE TO SCREAM ON THE INSIDE.
  2. I believe in TN that it is a NO NO for LPNs to work with Cental Lines, not that some of them aren't competent to do it, because most that I know are well versed in Cental Lines, but times they are a changin.
  3. I think that this is a very over compensated response to the letter writing and fury that came from the Cynthia Nixon episode if you remember she made the most ignorant comment that implied we were not educated and were just MD helpers, HOW STUPID I like Cynthia Nixon but she should have thought twice about that comment, oh the Comment was ( she was looking at the Healthcare providers around her and she looked at the former nurse now doctor and said she is smiling so it can be that bad and made some comment about Dr. Kovach, and then looked at Sam and said and I quote" How would she know shes just the nurse" WELL I WAS DONE THEN AND THERE,:angryfire :angryfire :angryfire and I wrote me a letter as did thousands of Nurses, oh well, I think they are trying to compensate for stupid stuff like that and plus they have true competion now, HOW ABOUT GREYS ANATOMY, so I guess you do what you need to to keep ratings. and that what I think about it although I did enjoy it a bit deep inside, but in real life it wasn't the best way to handle the situation and she was inappropriate in her manner of getting her point across, but it was fun.
  4. I agree they are assinine management solutions, tongue in cheek or not they were used as excuse and we could go in alot of direction with this whole thread and I was making a point on one aspect my view on the flipant comments that are viewed as excuses and thats just my opinion no big deal.
  5. \I think you need to read some of the earlier post and I am not misunderstanding them and you are not misunderstanding me either I meant what I said and it is foolish to think that we ALL wash our hands it is proven over and over again year after year that we ( meaning nursing) do not wash our hands as we should its a fact. I know doctors and others don't patients dont that is irrelevent to us as the nursing profession we are to answer for us. I do disagree with the button idea and would not wear it either, and if you look at studies on this matter we ( nursing ) do not come in over all other healthcare providers in handwashing. So sorry if you did not like my responce but I am all about patient safety and as hard as I try without making excuses it is hard to wash my hands as much as I should, and I fail alot everyday but I try as most do, I just hate it when people make excuses like " Ask me if I have had a break today" or " Why is when change needs to happen it is on the nurses to do it" The thought behind these statements are true but if we use them to excuse not washing our hands then its an excuse and its wrong. That is all I am saying Sorry its my opinion.
  6. Well here I go, keep in mind I need sleep if this sounds weird, I have already messed up one reply, I started at a small community hospital and grew from an LPN to RN in that time and learned alot and sometimes thought I had learned all there was to learn to a degree and thought I was the stuff in Cardiac care and ER care, well then I went to the Big City and boy did I find out real quick I did not know JACK, if my opinion your young and new now is the time to learn and grow all you can I wish a thousand times that I had gone to the BIG hospital many years before I did. But again I say, DO WHAT FEELS RIGHT FOR YOU> :)

If you are in the school mode and you have both options available to you go for the RN, if you need a quick change in pay and want work experience then you could go for the LPN and the Later advance if thats what you want, I think we have to be careful using the terminology being respected in the nursing field, LPNs are to be respected along with CNAs Monitor Techs , yes I realize the difference, but we are all part of a team, dysfuctional as it can be sometimes and with one goal in mind good safe patient care. RNs deserve no more respect than LPNs Respect is titleless. GO FOR WHAT FEELS RIGHT>>>:)
  8. IF he was in on it then thats cool but if it was done as it was expressed as and I quote revenge then that is not appropriate, so it is early and I need sleep if that makes me wound a bit tight then excuse me and forgive me, and I do have chest hair but honestly didnt even think about it, NOT. I just took it as written sorry ooops

Oh my God do I ever hate that too, I thought I was awful but now I know I am not the only one, and I also hate the one that comes in shaking and the daughter says hes going to pass out on you from the dehydration , how many times has he vomited well once but, ONCE COME ON GIVE ME A FREAKING BREAK, :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire
  10. You will do fine, that is obvious
  11. I agree totally with needing to have more staff and more time for breaks I am a staff nurse in a very busy ICU, but it comes down to DO NO HARM and yes there is harm done lots of time with understaffing, I know all about the statistics DUH, but that does not excuse a simple task like cleaning your hands before you touch a patient, how long does that take, excuses is what kills people. :angryfire I think that when we conpromise what is proven to cause harm for ridiculous excuse we are not looking out for the patient. We are looking out for ourselves and that is not what nursing should be when it gets down to safety, yes we need better staffing that is a FACT, but that does not excuse sloppy harmful work. Consider my eyes rolled>>>>::angryfire :angryfire :angryfire
  12. I want to welcome you to TN and you are now in GODS country. I think you should look into Rutherford Co for housing esp. if you want land Symrna and Murfreesboro are great little communities and they have great schools well Murfreesboro does, and they are exactly 45 min from Vandy. I start Vandy myself on this coming week have wanted to work there for years and just now going that way. I'll be in Neuro ICU in the Adult Hospital you chose the right hospital let me say. Good Luck.
  13. this is not entirely true, i have held management positions over bsn and msn due to experience and i have a director now that was and adn for a long time as a manager of a large unit in a huge hospital, i have to say that window is closing, i must agree degree is taken over experience more and more these days and i am not sure that is always safe, because degree does not mean equipped. :)
  14. ok not sure know nothing about the topic and just a trying to gain knowledge question, WHY WOULD YOU WANT TOO ?? just asking because I don't know.
