  1. We send confirmed flu numbers to our county health department. We also, send number of students sent home with flu-like symptoms.
  2. The only verification I found was the response to to the comment of the link I posted earlier. There is one other post that addresses the snack cracker issue. When I googled it there was a lot of on-line petitions to get them to change it back. I don't think they made a formal announcement. This was the first I heard of it.
  3. Googled this for my own information and came upon this page from the Kellog's website, Peanut Flour added to sandwich crackers?! What is crazy, they say they will try to produce a cracker that will be safe for them to eat. WHAT!!! Isn't that what they had before?

  5. Had LD a couple of years ago that I got complaints on all the time. At one point it was his shoes. Talking about some funky feet! He got new shoes and the calls stopped for about 3 wks. I started to get calls again. Finally called mom and she was like, "yeah, we've had this problem since he was in the 3rd grade and he just doesn't care" (REALLY!) So she brought him a hygiene kit (which he never used). Now that he is a junior I'm not getting those calls, but it became very frustrating because you can't make some one care. We have LD's little sister and I have gotten a call about her also. Hopefully she will start caring, too.
  6. Little Darling/Little Dear either way works.
  7. One of my LD from yesterday's craw-fish was just being near it. I had a LD that was allergic to cinnamon. Her sophomore/junior year we treated with Benedryl. The summer between her junior and senior year the reaction was so severe she carried an epi-pen. She could walk by the classroom where they were cooking cinnamon rolls and she would break out. She even had a reaction to cinnamon air freshener when a teacher sprayed it in the hallway she was walking down.
  8. LD #2 had his stolen out of his backpack and he has not replaced it yet. LD #1 does not have one. Gave both of them coupons for free epi-pens we rec'd earlier this year for extra's.
  9. I thought I was going have to give 2 epi-pen injections yesterday. We have an annual fundraiser at lunch which the girls participating in the activity sell food. Well, here in our area craw-fish is a big deal. We have craw-fish this, craw-fish that and the biggest of all boiled craw-fish. After first lunch, I have a LD come in and say "I am having an allergic reaction." Airway issues none the less. As I am assessing LD #1, LD #2 comes in with the same issue!!!! Both LD's knowing they are allergic to shellfish and sat with people eating the craw-fish. LD #1 even peeled one for her friend!!! Neither were in acute distress and could breath well enough to hold very lively conversations with each other. Having standing orders for both Benedryl and Epi-Pen I grab both. I treated both with Benedryl and call parents to pick up. Benedryl kicked in and both stated the s/s were getting better. By the time parents came to pick up LD's, the only complaint they had was being tired. Thank God for standing orders!
  10. I can remember scoliosis screening in 5/6th grade other than that, I done't remember having a school nurse. Had a medical issue in high school, but never seen the school nurse. Called my dad and he told them to let me go home so I could go to the DR.
  11. "I am constantly amazed at how many kids have head injuries. Did we have this many growing up and I was sheltered, or are we devolving into egg skulled fragile beings? I have wondered about the increase of head injuries. I have wondered if the effects of our diets and all the additive/preservatives in our processed foods have had something to do with the increase. Sometimes it has been "minor" hits to the head have caused issues and the the "major" hit that should have issues do not. Some times there is not rhythm or reason.
