  1. I just had a parent call me wanting me to check on her 4 year old son to see if he has poison ivy because he has been staying with his Aunt and Uncle the last two days and "They just called me to let me know they all have Poison Ivy. I want to know if he has it so I can pick him up. I don't want him to spread it to the other children." No rash, just a little mosquito bite on his neck. ?‍♀️ It was nice to have a parent not want to infect the other children though.... I suspect the Aunt and Uncle she is talking about is another parent who yesterday called me wanting to know if her child needed to go into "quarantine" for a Poison Ivy rash on her cheek.
  2. I had a similar asthmatic emergency yesterday as well! The 6 year old was coughing and wheezing like her normal attacks but about an hour and half after treatment was back having trouble again. I called Mom to take to the ER, I felt like she would be fine to wait, but then about 20 minutes later I noticed she was just not right and sats had gone from 95% to 88%. Immediately I called 911 and really freaked out grandma who had arrived just then to get her. They ended up transporting her to the hospital. She was released last night and is at home today. Even in my sixth year as a school nurse, I still can get a little hesitant about when to call. I do need to remember the minute I even think about dialing 911 that I should just call. That's a great thought! I keep kicking myself that I didn't call for her earlier yesterday but I'm glad I did, even if parents are mad about it. It is a very different world to work in the school setting, but I feel so much better hearing about everyone's experiences. Helps me not feel as alone. :)
  3. We use skyward too. The problem we have encountered with entering staff visits in the "entry by date" section, is that there's not a way to go back and view what we documented on the staff visit. It shows we saw them but no way to see the note. If it's a visit where the staff member is referred to hospital/ER we fill out an accident/incident report. That's the best we can do for now.

I had a dream that I was infested with lice once too! When I woke up in the morning though....I did find lice in my hair....ahhhh!
  5. I had a kindergartner come in once saying he wasn't feeling well. When I asked him what he felt like he shouted "I feel like a potato!." There were some teachers who had been standing outside the door talking who heard this and started cracking up along with me. Very random...
  6. Nobody at my school said anything to me about nurse's week or School Nurse's Day. Then on Wednesday I put one of those flyers from NASN that said School Nurse's Day May 11th on the outside of my clinic door....suddenly, people were telling me "Happy Nurse's Day!" The principal came to me later in the day with some last minute roses and a Dr. Pepper from the vending machine to say thanks:up: My nursing supervisor did bring all of us a cupcake during the day though so that was nice. Oh, and a funny thing that just happened. I had a 4th grader come in for his daily med, he saw the flowers and asked what they were for. When I told him it was for School Nurse's day/Nurse's week, he said "Nurse's week?? I didn't even know that was like...a thing!" Now he knows...
