Finally done with the worst two years of my life
The relationship wasn't black and white. Obviously there were a lot more issues than nursing school. Risk my dream and knowing full well it wasn't going to work out? Naw, not me. I'm willing to do whatever I can to make amends but that's not possible if the other person isn't interested. It's called life. It's not fair. All I can do is try my best. Blessings :)

Finally done with the worst two years of my life
Where do I start? The month before nursing school I went through a divorce. During that time, the last three years were spent working two jobs while doing my prerequisites at night. I had a son and a daughter on the way. Just before making my dream a reality, the wife made an ultimatum. You either come home to the east coast and hold your dream or you stay in California and go to nursing school. I couldn't just drop what I worked so hard for especially since I had a 2.8 gpa and got into a nursing school which is almost impossible. Nursing school drained the life out of me. Every care plan, every test, ever skills check off. After the first couple months, I was mentally and physically drained. Plus on top of that, I was heartbroken and missing my children daily. I don't know how I got through nursing school but prayer and patience were key. I loved every second of patient care, even the difficult patients were quite interesting. I found my love in each hospital, in the late nights and early mornings. Often times I'd be dreaming about my patients and how their lives turned out the way they did. Nursing was and still is in my blood. It's a life of service and giving. We sacrifice ourselves to make other people's lives better. Complete strangers. Nursing isn't for everyone. In fact, almost 30% of my class didn't make it. I wanted to write this post to those of you out there who want to go into nursing and are still unsure. Don't waste anymore time thinking about it. If this is what you truly love, a selfless profession, go for it. You won't regret it one bit. To the care plans and endless paperwork, I'll never miss you ever again. To my fellow classmates, it was a wild two year journey. For me, it was a nightmare that felt like it would never end.

Merritt College Fall 2016 Reviews
I'm also in the same boat. I just received the letter indicating I met the minimum requirements and now need to submit my TEAS score. I already passed it many months ago so I'll just submit it in when I get a chance. Any updates from recent graduates?????

Fall '16 Chabot, CSUEB, Ohlone, Merritt, and CCSF!
I'm a second degree student. I've applied to Chabot, Ohlone, Merritt, Los Medanos, Drexel (ABSN), Holy Family University (ABSN), St. Francis School of Nursing, and another school in Ohio that was ABSN. I forgot the name lol. Prayers for everyone. Whatever is in your destiny will happen. God bless!

Student doesn't eat and I'm the person to fix it!
I was just going to write the same thing! You summed it up! My wife was a behavioral therapist and she worked with many autistic kids. One of the kids was a 5 year old boy who had issues with eating. He would only eat poptarts and cheetos. She started off by first playing with fruits and veggies. He had a phobio even touching them. Slowly but surely he started playing with them and picking them up. Then she moved onto picking it up and moving it close to his mouth. Finally he tasted. Eventually he ate fruits and veggies but not all of them. He had a preference for some over others. Keep up it up, it's worth the hard work!

Residency program question
I live in California. It's a flooded market. I honestly would do the residency program and then come here. You'll have a better chance compared to the recent grads we keep popping out every semester and there are A LOT of them. I pray for the best for your future. Keep working hard!

Thinking about leaving nursing school
Do not quit nursing school! Do not listen to anyone on here who tells you to. Trust me, i work with a nurse who became a np and now just received her marriage and family therapist license. She works here at a cancer center where she deals with the many issues of our patients. You have so much more to gain by finishing what you started. You already put in the many years of pre-reqs and 1 year of nursing school. You will regret it if you drop out!!!

Confused work ethics :-/
A NP I work with in our outpatient clinic gets paid 15k a month. She just started with only one year of experience as a RN. You're being low-balled. In California, you can get paid 100/hr per diem if you like. Don't waste your time with being micromanaged. You have more than enough experience.

Best Path to RN for me?
I'm in the same position as you. I have my bachelors in sociology and graduated in 2009. I went back to school in 2014 and finally just finished all my pre-reqs for nursing. I'm going the ADN route because I never have taken out a loan in my life. I don't believe in them. After I graduate from the ADN program I'm going to enroll at WGU. I will most likely do the RN-BSN and finish it up in 1 term. I did all my 6-10 page term papers the night before so I'm a speed demon when it comes to writing. From what I hear, that's what it takes to be successful at WGU. The best part is it will only cost you 3k to get the RN-BSN. No loans needed. Win/win situation :)

Float Pool Nursing Pay
He was probably drunk when he talked to you, lol. A nurse works with me in an outpatient cancer center in California 4 days a week. She just transferred from inpatient oncology where she worked for 8 years. She currently still works there but only one day a week (Tuesdays) 12 hour shift per diem. She told me she gets 90/hour. You can make 12k+ or more if you have more than 5 years experience and working per diem in California.

switch from medical school to nursing?
To the OP: I also am a very religious person and to my knowledge it seems like you guys are Catholic. I know the traditional view is that marriage is about working it out and you should never get divorced. I also believe that you should work as hard as you can to avoid divorce, but to me it seems like your wife is using you. I live in California and I honestly can say the majority of nurses I see are from the Philippines. Marriage is a partnership and the most important part of that partnership is compromise. You have to give some and take some. You have to sacrifice certain things. From what I hear and I've worked as a counselor and a teacher, she is using everything she can to manipulate you. She is being very childish to give you the silent treatment and she blames it on "culture." That is a lie. That is her own emotional issue. You need to seek out counseling IMMEDIATELY and it should not be someone at church, that way she has no excuse not to go. If she still refuses, I would leave this woman. She is not worth your time or your money. You have a good head on your shoulders and God has blessed you with the opportunity to become a medical doctor. I have traveled outside of the USA and I have seen so many people who would die for the chance you're getting. Stick out the two years and get it done. If my wife or husband had a dream, the last thing I would worry about was finances. I would work my butt off to make sure my wife is able to accomplish her dreams and I feel your wife should too. If she is traditional and doesn't like working outside of the house, she should look for a job where she can work from home. The last advice I can give you brother, DO NOT HAVE A CHILD. You are only setting yourself up for a life of hell. No disrespect but your wife seems very conniving. She will DEFINITELY use the child to manipulate you. Don't think for a second that having a baby is going to solve your issues. It's only going to INCREASE them. Do you know how many sleepless nights you're going to have? On top of this, no disrespect again to the women here but there are many HORMONES that increase and decrease while pregnant. If you think your wife is bad now, you have something coming for you buddy. Also, after birth, a lot of women have the baby blues. Not all of them, but some. I can only imagine if this happens with your wife. You're in big trouble buddy. I'm sad to see you haven't posted in a while, my concern is your wife is pregnant and now you are in a hell hole. I pray everything is good and if you need direct advice, don't hesitate to PM me. God bless.

Just self reported. Feeling hopeless.
I find your post very relevant to my own life. Although I am not the one who is addicted, I have a brother who is. It sucks to see such brilliant minds being caught up in the devil's game. I admire your courage to come on the forum and express yourself. I have tried many things for my brother. We have sent him to rehab and the first day he was out he went back and used. I even had a job overseas in Saudi Arabia, where drugs are very hard to find (drug traffickers get the death penalty). He stayed with me for 4 months and when he got back, it was only a matter of time before he started using again. I cannot comprehend his mind, but I do know that addiction is a monster. From many articles and research, one of the best ways to deal with addiction is prayer. Knowing there is a higher power and praying to the Almighty helps a lot. I'll keep you in my prayers. Don't hesitate to express yourself here. We are in a boxing ring against addiction. Everyone here at AllNurses is in your corner. Keep fighting!

Took the TEAS V
Keshwani on youtube is the best for the math! He helped me score 27/30 on the math and it's my worst subject! There was actually a question on the Teas V like 24323.523 X 620000.0300. I remembered Mr Keshwani telling us to count the decimals to make sure it matches before you even start a problem. Sure enough I looked down at the answer choices and only 1 had 7 decimal places. I didn't even need to attempt the problem! I finished the math portion with 15-20 minutes remaining!
