I have two residents on my unit who get latulose. One gets it at 5pm and the other gets it at 8pm. our standing orders for no bm x3days is to first give 30 mL of MOM at HS. of course if the day nurse notices that someone hasn't gone to the bathroom in 3 days she can give it too.

I work in a lock down alzheimers unit at a nursing home. we usually keep our med cart behind the nurses station so the residents won't mess with it. recently i had my relief, the 11-7 nurse complain that i put too many cups on the med cart. i thought to myself, you should consider yourself lucky that i take the time out to stock the medcart cause a lot of nurses dont. i put so many cups on the med cart because it seems like i'm the only one that stocks the cart. i don't have time every day to go off the unit to get supplies.

The nurse working the hall decides which CNA has which residents. On my alzheimers unit there are basically two halls. one cna gets the front hall while the other gets the back hall. on the other halls outside my unit the nurse assigns the aids to each section of their hall like one to the front section, one to the middle, and one to the back section. on my unit my 2 full time cna's get the same residents. if someone who does not usually work back there comes to work they may or may not get the same residents. it depends on which one of my full time cna's are working that day. they get first choice basically. if we are short staffed an aide can volunteer to be switched but only if they have enough people on their hall. ultimately it is up to the supervisor. Floaters do not get extra pay. If you are assigned to float then you have to float. yes, each cna has a soiled linen and trash barrel.

we had to do all the ati's too but it wasn't a 'you have to pass it in order to get your paperwork signed' type of thing. they basically used it as a predictor for us and for them of who would pass the NCLEX. i felt like the questions were nothing like the ones on the NCLEX but the questions on the ATI's were a good review. obviously they did something right because everyone in my class that has taken the NCLEX so far has passed.

I just finished the LPN program at Coastal in may. Yes it is a good school. What i did when i applied was i applied to both the LPN and RN programs. I got the letter that i was an alternate in the LPN program and that i had not gotten into the RN program. Then, maybe 1 week later i got a letter saying that i had been accepted into the LPN program. later i found out that most of the class had been alternates to start out. anyway, there is not really a wait list, your either in or not. They have a transition LPN-RN program which is a year long. The pass rate for the NCLEX at coastal for the RN program in 2005 was 91%, for LPN 100%. Other CC close to jacksonville is Craven CC which from my house out in town is about 30 min away. if you live on base it might be 45min-1hr away. I think everyone walks out after testing feeling like you have failed. i believe the test is designed that way. i took my test on 6/2 and got 92 questions. i felt like i had guessed on most of my questions. but i found out monday 6/5 that i had passed!! in fact everyone in my class that has taken the test so far has passed.

ok...i got my ATT yesterday 5/20. it seems like most of the people in my class got it yesterday too. i scheduled my test for June 2nd @ 1230.

the place that i am planning on working (a nursing home) only pays a $0.75 shift differential. on the weekends they give $2.00 for working weekends plus the $0.75 shift differential. they also throw in bonuses if you work extra shifts when they are really desperate. i don't mind the low differential because they pay alot higher than most places around here especially the hospital.

i did that sometimes when i was in school. what i would do is underline the key words in the sentence. since obviously you can't do that on a computer, seek out the key words to the question and keep them in mind. look at your choices, pick one, and then read the question again just to make sure.

About how long did you have to wait to get your authorization to test after submitting all of your info?? I turned in my application with fees and registered with pearsonvue on 4/10/06. but i didn't get around to sending in my fingerprints and cbc authorization until 5/10/06. my instructor said she would send in the stuff she needed to send in order for us to test by 5/10/06. so i'm just wondering about how long i will have to wait. sorry if this is a repeated question. i did a search but didn't come up with anything specific to NC.

i just had my final exam on the 5/9/06. now i'm looking forward to pinning on the 19th and taking the boards. i can't believe it is over. i'm happy but sad all at the same time. i am going to miss each and every person in my class. you really do become close to these people. let me stop before i start tearing up.

i don't think so. it sounds like she was just saying that her experience was different than yours. i do think that she could have just written what happened on her shift without the "Contrary to what was written above".

i think i know what message board you are referring to. there was a post about a mother who had had a previous c-section and had since then become an MD hater and would not deliver in a hospital under any circumstances. i guess at some point during her pregnancy an MD told her that she would need another c-section d/t shoulder distocia. so she hired an illegal midwife to deliver her baby at home with no doctors. she was over 40 weeks pregnant when her water broke and the illegal midwife tried to deliver the baby at home. guess what happened.. she couldn't get the baby out. after trying and trying they finally decide to call 911. i don't know if this part is accurate or not but i think when the ambulance got there they tried to deliver the baby and the whole time the woman was yelling at them telling them to do an episiotomy to get the baby out. i think they finally get the baby out and the baby had already died. the baby was 9 lbs. till this day the woman does not feel she did anything wrong and actually has the nerve to say she had a successful VBAC even though her child died. she blames the paramedics for not performing the episiotomy and according to her not doing anything once the baby came out. the illegal midwife was being investigated but the mother would not tell them her name or how she got involved with this person. this woman plans to get pregnant and not do anything different. it is crazy how people at this particular message board rally around her and tell how wonderful she did and how she did nothing wrong. and if anybody says anything different you are called a troll and banned from the site.

Hi! I am from Jacksonville, NC. I am currently an LPN student at Coastal Carolina CC. My dad was in the military and we moved her when i was 7. I plan on possibly doing the bridge program at coastal or Craven CC. I currently work at Britthaven as a medical records and mds assistant. I plan on working there after i graduate. I am a single parent of an almost 5 yr. old.

why don't you go up to their table and join in on the conversation?? when you are sitting by yourself do you think you look approachable?? sometimes you just have to show people that you are interested in having a relationship with them and not just expect them to come to you. ETA: i am one of the youngest in my class and we are all pretty close. i have no problems hanging out with the fifty something year old in our class or my fellow 22 year olds.
