Getting started with Excelsior College
Just wondering - where did you do your clinicals? I work in corrections and not sure if I could do them here or not? Do they allow that ? Can you PM me? I still haven't written 15 yet so still can't do it...Thanks

Thinking of going to Excelsior college- pros or cons?
Quick question - Where did you do your clinicals in Phoenix? I am approaching that point and would like some insight on the clinical sites - did you get to choose where to go? Can you use your current job as a preceptorship? I work in Corrections, so I am not sure how it would work if I did it here...I can't PM yet, but if you can can you send me one? Thanks

Passed NCLEX RN
Congratulations! It is motivating to continue to read all about the success of you all! I also started in 2009 - have taken a long time to get through this - working 50+ hours a week doesn't help BUT am renewing my committment to STUDY & FINISH and be able to put RN behind my name instead of LPN! To all those still working on it - KEEP GOING - it will be worth it!!

Current LPN Student, wanting to do Excelsior Nursing LPN to RN PLEASE READ
Here's my advice, you can take it for what it's worth. I am doing the College Network - I was relying SOLELY on their resources, which I found in the last test that I took (LS1) many questions on the test I really had no clue where they came from. While College Network tries to keep their study guides and information updated, I am not totally certain they are able to. I would highly recommend taking the money you would spend at the College Network & purchasing the resources that Excelsior recommends. The books are expensive, but the information will be priceless AND the tests will be parallel with your readings.

insulin med error
I wish we had to double check it, even though it would be more time consuming. The policy to double check is only a facility policy- it varies from place to place

insulin med error
Thanks for all of the encouragement. I did learn a lot from this error, and have been extra cautious ever since. Interestingly enough, this patient saw the dr the next day and his insulin was actually increased to almost the amount that I had given him, because he had been having high blood sugars, Not that it lightens my error at all, but no harm done to the patient and a good learning experience not only by me, but a warning to the other nurses in our facility on how quick an error can happen!!!

insulin med error
I have been a nurse for almost one year- I just had a major med error this morning- I gave the wrong insulin to a patient...I gave him 32 units instead of 18- my heart sunk and I have had that nautious feeling all day. I reported it to the Dr right away and also filled out a med error report sheet. The residents blood sugar was over 200 this morning, then I had to go home and sleep- I worked the night shift. HAs anyone done this before?? Will I lose my job? Thank goodness the patient is ok.....

shift differential question
I was just at a meeting with our DON and administrator and the shift diff subject was brought up - yes, we get NOTHING!!! for 3-11 or 11-7 or weekends. They sd it wasn't needed and that we work those shifts because we want to. I sd we need to be competitive. They came back with the corporate office doesn't allow it. End of story. Is this common??
