  1. It takes a special type of person to care for children. I know for a fact that I could never work Pediatrics. God has Blessed some of us with the heart to be able to watch over these little ones. Hold you family close, be thankful they are here and are healthy, and thank God he made Pediatric Nurses!
  2. Your 26 and worried about being too old??? I was 46 when I went back to school for my LPN. I am now turning 48 and have just started classes for my RN. Your never too old! Good Luck
  3. I worked full time while attending full time night classes for my LPN. I was on the Deans list twice. It can be done, but you have to give up having any life and free time. Good Luck!
  4. Are you ready for this?? I had $100 stolen from my purse, it was locked in the Med Room, the only keys were with me and my partner. She denies taking the money, but..... I guess trust is something you lose really fast. Now I watch everyone with my stuff as well as my patients!:angryfire
  5. I should have added that I am a new LPN (9 month) and that this is a LTC facility. The only help I get is from the 4 CNA's I have working the unit with me.
  6. My question is simple. Is there a limit to the number of patients a single nurse can take care of safely? In my job on a Med/Psych unit, I have 34 patients to take care of. This includes all the paperwork, Dr. calls & orders, admissions, discharges, treatments, ordering supplies, answering family questions, etc... My DON says it can be done, but I've seen 2 very experienced nurses leave the floor after stating it was unsafe for one person to run this unit. Any thoughts on this??
  7. Mine shut off at 84! I was so scared I had to have my niece look online to see if I passed, 2 days after the results were in! I passed but the stress was unbearable. I'm sure you did fine.
  8. I work in LTC on the 3-11 shift, all the nurses on the 11-7 shift are agency, some are good some are bad. But the thing that really toasts me is when they waltz in 1 hour late, take a half hour to put their stuff away, then talk about every little thing when I'm trying to give them report. Worse yet are the ones that decide not to show at all and don't bother to call me to let me know. Calling the agency is no help, they don't have back-up nurses. It's times like that I just want to do bodily injury to anyone from the agency I can get!
  9. I've worked with some of the best RN's in the business, and, unfortunately, some of the worst. Most RN's are just thrilled that I passed NCLEX, they aren't to concerned if I have 3 letters to my title or 1. The few that encouraged me to continue to RN stated they did so because if I was hired at thier Company it would mean more help for them. All Nurses are stretched to thin.
  10. Hi Steve, I'm a LPN but I was hire before graduation from school to be Charge Nurse on a Sub-Acute unit in a LTCF. It was scary but after 2 months I'm getting the hang of it and love it. Good Luck on what ever you decide.
  11. As a new Nurse who is being "eatten alive" by the more experienced nurses in my LTC unit, I can say I am sick of the term and the actions, but I won't give in to them. I saw myself in many of those situations. Had to laugh, scared that someday I too will become "experienced".
  12. After explaining to a patient that I would need a sample of BM to guiac, I asked if she would come get me when she had gone. Well there I am in the middle of med pass, surrounded by patients and family, when she walks up and places a hunk of BM right in my ungloved hand!
  13. That is way too funny! I fell out of my chair laughing!
