Hi all, I just got hired as an extern in a CCU. I am in my last semester of LPN school and will be starting RN school in January. Can ANYONE (I'm not shouting )give me advice? I want to be as big a help as I can, I know the job description, and am aware of my duties. I just really want to do a good job and learn as much as I can. What will the nurses and Docs appreciate the most from an extern? Thank you! :kiss

Animaniac, I got my job at the hospital I did a rotation at. my clinical instructor was on staff as a contingent. She helped me. Also consider the time of year you apply. most hospitals hire externs at specific intervals, interviews in march mean work in april or interviews in november mean work in december. good luck and don't give up. ps volunteer and get to know the managers on your own and express an interest

I spoke with Faye Otto and she said she would allow me to take the course even though I have another semester to complete in nursing school. Do yu really recommend this or wold I be better off taking it somewhere else... Please be honest..it is very pricey and I do not want to waste my money

My father has worked in radio technology for over 25 years. (He has engineered stright-line, micro, strato, digital, etc.) To this day he says most of these claims of intereference, if not all, are farce. My dad is also a retired engineer, who taught electrical and digital electronics. He says the same thing.

I do not know a woman in nursing school who has not heard," all you're going to do is leave me for a doctor anyway..." 2 of my classmates are goingthrough divorce and my fiance' is this close to aasking for his ring back...not! I am in my last semester of LPN school and will be startingthe RN program in January, if he leaves... I will be upset, mad, distraught amd all else in between, but if I quit before I am a nurse I can't begin to explain how I would feel... It's hard but know you are not alone. My Gi-Gi( great grandma) said to me that if he leaves, that is what "devices" are for. You need stimulation go buy a rabbit , need a hug call a good girlfriend , need romance a good movie or a great book. Besides most of our partners are just a little insecure, male or female You will be fine...try to stay focused and remember you can always get the rabbit :icon_hug:

I worked it out same as you and got the same thing with rounding. I try to remember: vol X calibration( dripfactor)/time and good old faithful want/have=give good luck

How much does kinkos charge for that? I think that is a great idea! Our books are enough to set you up for back surgery! :rotfl:

I am going to be a SANE as well, I am currently enrolling in a course for my certification. Having been a victim of rape, I must say it may be ...difficult.. . for a woman to undergo a rape kit with a man. That is not to say a man can't do it.. perhaps in a situation where it was a man that was victimized... I applaud your efforts but think like some others who have posted...take one step at a time. Esp the midwifery..see if you can witness alive birth first and shadow a consultant for lactation. You may change your mind and decide that you want to go in another direction I wish you well

Now, I question if I have what it takes to be a good nurse. I know I need help with time management. I have gone to my preceptor and all she says is that it will come with time. My orientation was not the greatest. My preceptor provided little follow-up communication or assessment of my skillls. I feel that the minute I step on the floor, I am always behind. I'm assigned 4 to 5 patients, most are insulin dependent. the cna's on days are forever complaing that the rn's are lazy and they don't do quite the job that I would expect them to do. As a result, I find myself doing some of their job, all of my job and I am just getting frazzled. I do love nursing though. sounds normal to me! Relax every nurse I know says it will come with time. If you get a free minute try explainng your concerns to your preceptor, if that doesn't work try the manager. It will be okay...but then I am only a student what do I know
