Hello, I will be a new grad in May. I am in Texas, will be graduating from a TX ADN program. What would i have to do to relocate to Florida and obtain my RN license ?? Has anyone done this ?? We may be relocating to the St. Petersburg area.... this has all come about very quickly. if anyone can share any info regarding licensure, jobs, and real estate in the area please help! Thanks !

Could a recent graduate do home health?
I am glad someone started this thread. Is it possible for a psych nurse to eventually go into HH ?

"hospitals won't hire psych nurses"
OK I have a question...... So my question is , if a new grad starts on a psych unit, is she boxing herself in for psych and only psych ? I asked the nursing recruiter I have been speaking to this very question and he said "No because many of the psych patients have med surg problems too" .....so hopefully that's the case. any insight would be wonderful !

Why are RN's not drawn to HH? Only LPN's?
I graduate in 07 and plan to work in med surg for a while and then hopefully get into home health. I think I would enjoy the independence and freedom and the driving really does not bother me. We shall see !

Getting over the Gross Factor
you will get used to the gross factor. i think everyone has their little things that make them go ewww like me i hate feces ! a friend of mine hates yacking sounds when people vomit. that personally does not bother me in the least. You'll get used to it !

Is their really a big demand for nurses?
that's really strange, bc i live in the area and have never ever heard of any new grads having a hard time finding a job. it may be on med surg, but they get jobs ..

Does or did anyone feel like this about clinicals?
I feel like everyone knows more than me !

No personal letters of rec...?
maybe do they mean, like friends, or family ? I would definitely have the same problem too if letters weren't allowed by teachers, etc.

Nurses: Delighted or Annoyed by Nursing Students?
i think i have a pretty good nursing class, there is only 30 of us , 10 in each hospital and we are all older, mature, and for the most part pretty smart. I always feel nurses out before I try and shadow/learn from them.

lvn or straight through??? help please.
Hi everyone, I am going back and fourth on an issue. I am in the first year of my 4 semester ADn program. THIS SUMMER we can do clinicals all summer and sit for the LVN exam in the mid fall. This is basically working 40 hrs a week, straight through no breaks, etc. no pay , blah blah. but i am sure the xperience is very valuable. I have been told that lvns are being phased out but i see ads for them all over. I would love to work possibly weekends while I stay in school for the adn. I AM getting my adn/rn, doing the lvn woudl be for experience and hopefully a part time job. I have gotten mixed reviews - some say do it others say don't bother, bc lvns are being phased out. Again, I would love to have the opportunity to work part time while in school, and get my foot in the door , however i don't want to get all the way thru and see there are no jobs, and there are not jobs that will accomodate students. my second option is to take some classes for a BSN. I already have a bs in psych so it won't take long, but i do lack THREE prereques (nutrition, chem, and stats......) so i was thinking about working on that. third option is to get a regular part time job somewhere and just sort of chill. That is what many of my classmates are doing. I am really torn on this topic. I am leaning toward the lvn bc it will be valuable experience. I would love to hear others stories -- others experiences. Thanks so much ! :balloons:

Help me understand diabetes
Thanks for the advice. I am doing some searches and helping myself undestand. let me ask this : WHY are carbs such a big part of the diet when carbs are basically sugar, and the person already has high blood sugar ???? Sorry about your cat LOL I have eight myself.

We are studying diabetes now. I guess I don't understand where the HYPOGLYCEMIA comes in , if diabetes is mostly hyperglycemia ?? Why are there such extremes in blood sugar ? Any help would be appreciated ! Thanks !

What was harder? Non-nursing bachelors or ADN?
nice to see other psych people out there ! What did we think we were going to do w that degree anyway (lol) i personally thought i was going to work in a battered women's shelter, a hospital, or even a nursing home .. little did i know that social workers fill those positions and they are few and far between. lots of 'funding' issues w not enough funds.

Here's how stupid the nursing situation is getting here in TX...
where are you at where you can't find a job in t x ??

scary, that's exactly what i have (Bs in psych. mnr in spn) and I couldn't have said it better --- not easy , but not as challenging as the adn program.
