Anyone enrolled in Drexels's RN-BSN online program
I am in the program. I love it. I'll be entering my 3rd semester there. I took 2 classes my first, one six credit course this summer, and ill be taking 2 classes this fall for a total of 7 credits. I also take burlington comm college classes. I still work full time. Its manageable but you just have to be a self learner who is dedicated. A fairly new grad may struggle since the demands of work are still high. There are no tests, just a few quizes in some classes, and loads of papers. One class had a videotaped assesment. Ill be done in the fall 2008 i can't wait. email with any questions, which classes are you enrolled and what teachers Nicole

There Is So Much Out There......when I Was Fired I Though Omg I'll Never Get A Job ....less Than 2 Weeks And Iwas Hired By More Than One Facility And I Chose The Right One.......once Your Happy And In A Place You Like You'll Consider All Things You Normally Wouldnt Have Including Going Back To Skool......now That I Love Where I Work Im Bored With My Free Time And Going Back For My Bsn Hopefully By Fall.....i Wish You All The Luck God Bless

Cooper Hospital Pay Question?
i left cooper because they of their proffesionalism.....believe me its a good hospital with great nurses and its crazy busy and you learn alot!! but i started there in august since i failed my boards my june start dat was pushed back to august until i passed boards which i did....i found a tumor in breast in late june after i failed boards and had it removed to find it was benign,......in aug on nights ( that is usally all they offer new grads u wait 1 yr for days) i started and then in november i found another lump my doc were hopeful again but i had to have surgery right away to remove it and needed time off to recooperate . i worked on an oncology floor and i thought they'd understand the scariness to this situation i fought tooth and nail for the time off to have surgery and recover......i did have surgery and when i came back being on a cancerfloor after two scares myself was too much i began having panic attacks both at work and at home and i went to management to ask for a position transfer to basic med surg flloor without oncology.....they refused i tried to stick it out till i had a panic attack at home which led me to the er.......i then went to my docotor who pulled me from work until we could get me on antianxiety medications at a level to control my attacks....he next morning i was fired and my benifits cut......i went to my union i knew i was being mistreated.......1 week later i recievedan apology and the green light to reaaply to any floor with the promise of rehiring. i said no thaank you. i took a position for day shift not nightsat virtua memorial on the infectious disease floor ....i have never been happier or felt more fulfilled like i do there......i know everything happens for a reason and im glad it did........i dont down cooper i down management and how they treated one of their own when i needed them most.

how to find agencies?
hey im going to begin working for an agency called onward healthcare it an agency in pa and burlignton but im signing up for work at a specific hospital only in willingboro.....i post my resume on monster and a million agencys call everyday, alot are in pa but some are here.....also try pool nursing......kennedy has a pool with low requirements and you just call their supplemental staffing office......jefferson has one too and you can call their main number ..just watch the requirements alot require only 24 hours in 6 weeks but 18 have to be weekend work and some require holidays....onward has no requiremnts unless you want benefits

Looking for Burlington County College Nursing students
i also graduated from bcc last may...i think it was a great program and i actually started in philadelphia community but heir wait list was 2 years....i went to bcc and used my fiances address, i evntually moved here. it was alot cheaper and i think made me better prepared than alot of other nursing students some even with their bachelors........ its also very easy to get a job in burlington couty especially at the hospitals you had clinicals cause they saw you in action.

what shift do you work and why do you like/hate it?
in my opinion its both lax and stressful.....yes theyre areless orders on nights but when a pt goes bad its harder to ahve those resources like on days........its easier to get comfortable with nursing and your routine , loking at charts on nights but for me nights wasnt worth a long stay i felt like i lost my lifeline on nights and i enjoy days having the doctors constantly around along with my manager and other resources .....i know im not alone

I got a job at a closer hospital with people that are really nice. I was contacted about my defaukt on my contract and am currently negotiating it i recieved 8000 for one years work i worked 6months and this happened . They want all 8000 back in one payment or 12 payments of 700 dollars or i get sent to collection agency Im working it out but you can buy out.

new nurse and im already needing time off(long) sorry
hi im a new nurse ive been off orientation for about a month.... things have been good a few mistakes here and there but nothing major since ive been on my own.....im actually starting to get the hang of it and then bam it happened......i went to my annual gyn and told the doctor i felt a little lump but it wasnt as big as a previous lump i had felt on my left which actually turned out to be a tumor but luckily it was benign and i had surgery to remove that one in july. i really wasnt worried about this it felt much smaller and was closer to my rib than my breast.....the doctor got very serious said she was concerned and wanted an ultrasound right away....i was supposed to work mon night but she got me in for an appt that night to have the U/S i had to call out for the 1st time but i was now as nervous as she was so my concern was on me rather than work......i wasnt scheduled to go back to work until wed night and i really didnt expect results til fri since i got the U/S late on monday night but sure enogh at 11 am wed i got the call its a tumor and considering my history it more than likely benign but its worrysome due to shape and its rate of growth since noone caught it and i have had multiple breast exams by both my surgeon, primary, and gyn since july she wants me to go to the surgeon asap and she made an appt for me to see him later that day....the surgeon already knows me since he did my prior breast surgery. So i call my work i want to give them a heads up my manager seemed very nice i told her there was a possibility i would be calling out she said she understood and told me to get notes so that i can collect from the state whie im out i told her i need to have test done and she the surgeon and break the news to my family that i need surgery again and theres still a chance for cancer. I wound up calling out on wed to see the surgeion and have some blood drawn and calling out thurs(thanksgiving) because i was a wreck and didnt know how to tell my family and make them worry about me again. i called my manager and let her know and left her a message telling her to call me if there is any problem, she didnt. im going to have surgery on dec 9th and ill be out till the 26th with a possibility of an additional week depending on my healing progress at my post op check up....i have to tell her on monday and im nervouse......i missed thanksgiving and im supposed to work christmas eve im going to miss them i told my doc i need to be back for new years day he says i should be ok but still i feel soo bad im afraid she going to be mad that im needing time off fresh off orientation and especially around xmas.....i actually wanted to work the holidays for the extra money....id rather work than have surgery again....im so nervouse to tell her i dont want her to be mad or dissapointed.....im also nervouse about money im not sure how this short term disability works but i cant not have a paycheck and im worried no that i will have that happen all this happened so fast and now im afraid to go abck to work any advice

I made a big mistake on night shift i need to vent (LONG) sorry
thanks for everyones support its really helping......my pt heart rate was fine a little tachy about 11 oclock and then stayed tachy reaching its highest point at 2 am and then coming down to 120 i left when she was at 120 so i have no idea if it came down further........im not even sure if it was a malfunction with the b/p machines sometimes our techs get way low b/p or high heart rate and when chefked manually they are far less hr or far hiugher im sure she was tachy but im really doubting it was 150 cause she was breathing normally with great b/p and said she felt great....ill never know though.....my preceptor was great she owned up to it to and even told me maybe it was partially her fault she wasnt checking them eitheir since i had sucha heavy load that night it wouldnt have hurt to have an extra pair of eyes.......usually my preceptor does check u see i have two preceptors one i am usually with and then this one but i love them both and i enjoy the differences in their teachings my other preceptor usually checks everything just to be sure and i like that too but i also think that at my 7th week i should handle alot on my own but im wishing now she would have checked.....i still cant believe i missed it but your huys words really help......as for the techs there are good and bad ones i had a bad one she never even gave me a sheet of vitals i looked them up and usually they alert me to the sllightest tick from the norm but she didnt but hey i still should have checked.....im really nervouse about returning to work and what will happen everyone says im not in trouble and honestly its not that im worried i just dont want to be looked at differently or have people feel like im irresponsible for those of you that made mistakes what happened afterward were u treated differenntly any reprucussions ???? just curious ...i go back tomorrow wish me luck

I made a big mistake on night shift i need to vent (LONG) sorry
Well its my 7 week orientation and i made a mistake.......ok i went in the other day and had 4 pts and a new admission......from the get go my pt were off the wall a ton of pain issures ....one pt wnated her pain med every 2 hr alternating with percocet and morphine .....so i had to call the doc and handle that........one pt wanted her pain med upped so i had to call the doc and handle that....another wanted pain med and c/o of SOB so i had to call trauma since they were following him and handle that.......another was a pre op and needed a pca with first time teaching.......i didnt get to report til almost 9 pm .....my post up came to floor and was fine i assessed he she was good her pca was good and her vitals good like hr-76 bp 116/78 her temp was 100.2 wich was down from the what it was in the PACU so any way my issues with the other four went on all night i was consatantly medicating them or handling problems......i checked on the my post up every hr and she was fine we talked and joked i made sure her urine out put was good.......i kept checking her b/p since it was low in pACU and it was good 110-120/s over o 70-80's her temp had come down to 99.8 she was good pain free and breathing fine....it was like 15 min before change and her doc was up and she said why did the tech but a hr of 150 in the comp at 2 am and i said no thats a mistake i went to the comp and sure enough 150 i went to my paper and sure enough 150 i coundlt believe it i had q15 min vitals on written down and ther hr was 142 or 130 on them .......i was dumbfounded......i missed a hr that high ........the doc was soooo mad and with good reason......right away i got her labs up for the am and luckily they were fine practically picture perfect i did an EKG and it was normal but she was tachy at 120 .......she POX 99 on RA bp was fine temp fine.....she said she felt great..........the doc filled out an incident report on me yelled a bit about how our attending is going to flip and once we knew the pt was ok left.....i was so upset i cried .......i couldnt believe i let that go by me and didnt notice it i was concerned with my other pt but i was inh her room alot and i looked at vitals but i gues i was so concerned with temp and b/p i missed it .....it seems like such a big number to miss ......everyone was soooo nice.....i overheard my preceptor tell the doc "she is usually very very good i am really suprised" she told me it happened the pt is fine and noone is in trouble.......alot of the other nurses said at least i took ownership that i missed it some people wouldnt.....my manager called me at home and to make sure im ok she told some mistakes she made and she said this will make me better and i will always double check my vitals even things that were normal.....she want me to tak steps forward and not stspas back since i only have 3 weeks left.......i just feel soooo bad i keep replaying it in my mind and wondering how i could have missed it ......i know i was busy but its no exscuse.......i want to get over this but im having a hard time....am i a horrible nurse......please help i feel horrible

Rude students
its a pet peeve of mine to see people saying that its not my job ........a nurses job is not to diagnose yes but it is his or her job to care for your pt for both physically, emotionally, and spirtual needs. If i go in to see my pt and they are soiled and i dont have a code or extreme emergency i change them and if i need help changing them i get the cna.....i dont leave the room and tell someone else to do it.....that takes more time to do thast then to do it myself......i also bathe my pt that i can tell really need it....alot of the cna only use wipes to bath but some people need a good old fashioned bucket of hot soapy water and i do it i save it for a time i know im not busy and i do it myself and sometimes ask for some help......a nurses job is not just to dish out meds and write notes its to care and i think alot of nurses forget that....and if a nursing student starts out with that attitude already that they are above toileting and bathing than i feel sorry for them and their future patients......keep doing what ure doing and being concientious to all of your pt needs.....you sound like your going to be a wonderful nurse!!!!
