I live in the South Jersey/Philadelphia area and just graduated from an RN program on 5/9/08. My NCLEX is scheduled for 6/17/08 and to top it off, I am 15 weeks pregnant. I have applied to every possible place that staffs RNs, but no luck yet. Most major hospitals in this area don't want to hire new grads. I did just get an interview scheduled for a nursing home/rehab facility. I guess I just need some advice. As a new grad with zero experience as a nurse, would you take a job at a nursing home if it meant getting in some experience so you could transfer to a better job in 6 mths to a year? I know that nursing home RN jobs are not anything special, espically for new grads, but I am desperate to find a job. At this point, is a job just a job, or should I hope that something better comes along soon? Janice

I had a meeting w/ the associate dean at BCC last week. This is the gist of what she said: #1 - forget about transfering unless you are an LPN going for your RN. The only way to get in is as a new nursing student, which means taking Nursing I all over again. #2 - unless you are a burlington county resident, don't even bother applying. She said preference is only given to burlington county residents. #3 - preference is then given to those students who are previous BCC students, in good standing (gpa over 2.5), and have almost all of the prereq classes completed. #4 - their evening program starts at 4pm, so you have to be available by then. #5 - you need to get a 90% on the clinical math test to pass the semester #6 - their passing grade for exams and stuff is 77% That's all I've got so far, but I'll post more if/when I hear anything. I did send in an application this week, so I should hear an answer by mid June or so.

I am in the process of trying to transfer from Helene Fuld in Blackwood to Burlington County College's Nursing program. I would love to talk with either current or past students from BCC's Nursing Program to get some insight on their program. Any info would be really helpful. Thanks - Janice

I have kind of a strange request. I am a nursing student at Helene Fuld School of Nursing in Blackwood, NJ. I am looking for some feedback from graduates of Southside Regional Medical Center school of nursing because, as it turns out, the dean you used to have just transfered to my school. Her name is Rose Saunders. She joined our faculty in October 2006 and there has been quite a bit of change since then. The overall feeling on her is not that great and I wanted to know if anyone else has any memories of her leadership style/abilities/whatever. Any insight you could give me would be of enormous help. I just completed my first semester at Helene Fuld in Blackwood. I applied late summer 2004 for the Fall 2005 Evening program. I was notified about a mandatory interview within about 6 weeks of submitting my application. I finally got an acceptance letter just before Thanksgiving. So from the time I sent in my application to the time I heard if I was accepted, it was about three months. And a long three months, I might add.

I am assuming that these uniforms for Helene Fuld are not needed until the begining of Nursing II, right? And also assuming that the lab coats aren't outrageous in price, it seems pretty okay as far as money goes. I know my aunt is currently in Lourdes Nursing and she has to shell out $100 per uniform. She's not too happy about that! Anyone out there currently in the Helene Fuld program or a very recent grad that can give me some insight to the teachers and what to expect?

I'm starting nursing classes in August 2005 at Helene Fuld in Blackwood. Does anyone know if there is a uniform we need for clinicals once we're in Nursing II? Also, is there anyone out there who has recently (within the last few years) graduated from this program? If so, I would love some insight on everything. Like, can a person really still hold down a full time job and complete the nursing program during the evenings without dropping dead of exhaustion? Thanks. Janice
