  1. After hearing so many wonderful things about Dansko shoes, I decided to take the plunge and buy a pair for school. I bought the white professional style. But I have a question about the way they fit. The sales girl talked me into buying a larger size, saying that they are not supposed to touch the back of your heel when you walk. To me, they seem too big and kind of flop when I walk. I am afraid they will strecth out and be unwearable. But I took her professional advice, and now am wondering if I should exchange them for smaller ones. So for those of you that have Danskos, how do yours fit, and did they stretch? I can't afford to end up with a pair of shoes this expensive that end up being uncomfortable or not fitting. Thanks! Amy
  2. I can't answer most of your questions, but I do know a few people who work at NGHS and like it very much. Pay is probably a little less than some of the hospitals closer to town, but the cost of living is much lower in the Gainesville area, as compared to the metro Atlanta area. And the North Ga. area is a very beautiful place to live!
  3. ks33, I am a student at Athens, and they do still have the satelite RN program at Gwinnett Tech, but this fall may be the last year (of course they've said that every year for the last 3 years..). It is hard to get correct information about the program there. Basically, you must go through there regular application process for the Athens campus, and be willing to attend there if you do not get one of the 10 spots at Gwinnett. I start nursing classes in the fall, and will probably ask for Athens campus, even though I live in Gwinnett, because the Gwinnett campus uses clinical sites that are much further from me than Athens is. Good luck to you! It is very competetive to get in at Athens, just like everywhere else. This year there were over 400 applicants for 50 spots.
  4. I am in the same boat. I will be starting in an RN program in the fall, and have been tryting to get a part time tech or unit secretary job. I have filled out bunches of online applications, and have never gotten any response. This week I plan to start going in person to HR departments and taking my resume.
  5. I have also been accepted to NGCSU on the Gainesville Campus. I am not sure I am going to accept the spot. I am waiting to see if I am accepted at Athens Tech. They will make their decision this week. I live in Loganville and am worried about the long drive to the Gainesville campus and to the clinical sites if I go to NGCSU. Athens is a bit closer to me, with less traffic.
  6. I took the TEAS in January. Upon receiving my results, I called the school and asked what scores they are looking for. I spoke with two different people, both of them told me that they do not disclose a minimum score that they are looking for in order to be considered for their program. All they would say is that their application process is based on a points system. You recieve so many points for each requirement for admission. They would not give me a break down of the points system, or tell me how much weight is placed on the TEAS score. I think that NGSCU's system for acceptance into the program is extremely vague. The rude treatment I have recieved from every person I have talked to in admissions and the nursing department makes me not even want to go to this school. If it were not for the rave reviews given to by students in the program, I would not even consider attending their program. I have a 3.82 GPA, and scored in the 97th percentile. I have 4 more prereqs to take for the NGCSU program, but have all but two done for the other program I applied to. If I get into both programs, I will not be choosing NGCSU, based on my experiences so far.
  7. Do any of you remember what range of score they look for on the TEAS exam? I just took it today, and I think I did pretty well, but the people from the testing department that proctered the exam said they did not know anything about what kind of score the nursing department is looking for. And I can't find anything about it on the school website either I'd just liked to know how I stand when I get my results back next week. Thanks, Amy
  8. What is the class schedule like for first year nursing students? I thought I remembered someone saying it was only three days a week. I'm trying to figure out what type of job I can have during school, and how bad the commute from Loganville would be. Thanks for any help!
  9. Funny that you are at the Gwinnett Campus. I just found out about the satellite program last week from someone in the admissions office at ATC. But when I was talking to someone at Gwinnett, and mentioned that program, they told me they didn't know anything about such a program! Good to know that it does exist, and that the lady who told me about it was not wrong. I would love it if Gwinnett Tech started an RN program! I wonder who I could talk to to find out about that? It would be good to know what there pre-reqs would be, so I could make sure to be taking the right stuff! The only problem I have discovered about transfering to Gwinnett Tech is that with my Asset score from ATC, they would require me to take 5(yes, FIVE!) developmental math classes! The lady in the testing center suggested that I study and then re-test in Algebra with the Compass test. Since it is not timed, she thinks I will do much better. So that is my plan. I'm not planning on taking the NLN this year, since I won't be applying to the nursing program for a whole year. I wanted to take my classes slow and try to get better grades, since I am also working full time. Thanks for answering my questions!
  10. Thanks for your reply. Congratulations on getting into the nursing program. I am starting my pre-reqs. at Athens Tech this week. It's going to take me a while to get them all done, as I have to take Developmental Pre-Algebra (amazing what you can forget in almost twenty years since high school Algebra!) before I can take the College Algebra, and I believe that will also hold me up on being able to take the A&P as well. I found it a little frustrating trying to register for classes because the nursing advisor did not have a clue about the pre-reqs for any of the classes! After I saw her, I had to go wait and see another advisor about the developmental math I need to take, and I'm still not sure about the A&P requirements, because I didn't have time to go see a science teacher and find out for sure. This quarter I am taking English & Psychology. Anyway, next quarter I think I am transfering to Gwinnett Tech to work on my pre-reqs. there, because it is closer to my work and home. I just need to make sure everything will transfer. Where did you do your pre-reqs, and did you apply to any other nursing schools? Good luck to you, and I can't wait to hear how you like the program! Amy
  11. I'm looking for opinions on the program at Athens Tech. I have been in contact with them, and it is very affordable, plus I can start my pre-nursing courses there this fall. I missed the application deadline for all the other schools, and will have to wait until spring to start anywhere else. I can't seem to get much first hand info on this school, however, and am just wondering if it is a good program, how hard it is to get into, etc. Thanks, Amy
  12. I have one more question for you. How did you know which classes to take, to make sure they would transfer? I've looked at both schools core class requirements, and there does seem to be a few points of difference. I wish I had started this process sooner, since I just missed the fall deadline to start classes. Now I have to wait until spring to begin, and from the sound of things, it will be next fall before I can even consider having enough course work done to apply to nursing programs. That would put me starting in Fall, 2007, if I were to get accepted. But last year I was busy having a baby and college was the last thing on my mind :chuckle Many thanks for the help! Amy
  13. I am wondering what the average wait to get into nursing school is? Do the BSN programs have shorter waits? It seems like if I finish my core classes, and then have to wait a year or two to get into a nursing program, I could complete a BSN in the same time. I want to be able to get out of my current job (which I despise) and into the medical field ASAP. I have also considered going into an LPN program, but the pay seems to be pretty low for LPNs in Georgia, and the jobs fewer. Hmmmm. Decisions, decisions! I guess the best thing to do is just get accepted at GPC and start my core classes, since no school will take me until they are finished. Amy
  14. Lisa, Thanks for your quick reply! So by saying you have applied three times, do you mean you have been waiting three years to get in? Is so, WOW, that's a long time to wait! I guess I will proceed with my application to GPC, since I currently have no college GPA for them to look at, I guess there is no chance of me getting in for Fall of 2006. Bummer. I hate to think about waiting two to three years just to get started! Amy
  15. Hi! I'm new to the site, but so very glad I found it today! I have recently begun looking into going to nursing school. I have been getting ready to apply to GPC, but thanks to this site, today I "discovered" NGCSU in Gainesville has nursing. Now I'm really confused about what to do Let me tell you all about my situation, and maybe someone can give me some input. I have never attended college. It's been a LONG time since I was in school, and I really have no idea what my highschool GPA was! I did go to Gwinnett Tech for Cosmetology, where I had to take a few college level classes, and I made good grades there. I am 34, married, have a 5 month old daughter, and a 6 year old step daughter. I live in Gwinnett county, in Loganville. GPC would be much closer, but I understand that it is hard to get in and a very difficult program. I'm not sure if NGCSU would even accept me, because of my grades in high school. Would it be possible to do my general study classes at GPC this spring and summer, and try to get into NGCSU for the fall 2006 program? I'm not sure how I would go about applying to both schools and then transfering over. It seems like the admission deadlines are so far in advance I'd have to apply both places at once as a non-traditional student with no college credits (I don't think my Gwinnett Tech classes will count). Sorry this is so long! Any suggestions or ideas? Thanks, Amy
