Are ER Patients Getting More Ridiculous?
We, as a society, now reward stupidity. We have the most uneducated, derelict society since the founding of the USA.

Name one of your favorite things about being a male nurse.
Having everyone point out that "I am male, and a nurse."...sigh...

Sexism in nursing
Datnurse, you are a bottleneck to progress. Can you just listen and examine yourself instead of assuming someone else is being "too sensitive?" Maybe YOU are being too sensitive...
-
Sexism in nursing
Well...no, I do not have another nurse on the other side with the same injuries as I do...are they telling you and not me? Grab another "nurse" to help you and stop being sexist. My spine doesn't tolerate a 400# pig any more than yours... Being male doesn't make me more "bullet proof" as far as physics goes... Please don't presume to speak for "every nurse..." Some are lazy asses

How did your parents react when you told them you wanted to be a nurse?
My folks were happy, nervous, and totally supportive.

Sexism in nursing
Never mind, I replied previously...Boohoo

Sexism in nursing
From my perspective/experience, I can see through any BS and shirking of duties. I feel good about myself and my capabilities when they are appreciated and not taken for granted or used as an excuse for someone to be lazy and focus on their own comforts. I am, I believe, the epitome of a team player. If you are there for me, you won't even have to ask me for help, I will be there. To be more accurate, I will be the first to help without being asked, but don't take my kindness for a weakness. I know how to play the game, if that's what is going on. Patient safety however will never be compromised for said "games." I'm just a very loyal coworker, and I accept nothing less. exit96

What was the MOST ridiculous thing a patient came to the ER for?
My sepsis is acting up Shaky arms And just to add- when did it become ok to allow the large amount of preg tests?? At my facility we supposedly "don't do preg tests," so some nurses try to encourage them to come up with a different CC! Of course we don't want that negative feedback from the patient, heavens no, the CEO won't get as big of a bonus...sigh

unsafe nurse to patient ratios
THIS is my burning question/concern presently. I am fighting tooth and nail for 3:1, but with our new facility and more rooms we are forced (by our RN peers, if you can believe it) to take 4:1. I cannot get my fellow RN's to Stand for 3:1 ratio, and I think a lot of it has to do with what I might cal "hero complex." Imagine, our own peers/RN's not standing for safe practice, and then thinking that management will?? I am at my wits end. And I'll tell you right now I am a diligent, hardworking RN. Along with this frustration is the fact that the majority of the time we are short staffed, and we still have an LPN on staff on some of those days, no offense to the LPN's. I'm in Michigan, and someone told me a few days ago that there is legislation in the works pertaining to safe RN to patient ratios...hope to see it soon. One more thought...and to think, some folks actually bought the lie the Unions are the problem...sigh

Sexism in nursing
Really? Can you apply this rational to all minorities? Get out of the biz if you are treat unfairly? Did you re read your post? How about this? If you can't perform all the duties of the job, without sacrificing MY BACK, YOU get the H out of the biz?

"Women in Nursing"
I wonder if it's because it is assumed that Nursing "is female." Which leads to several other presumptions, which is sexist...just sayin'

Nurse of the year
Thanks for the reply, I DO get the math. It's pretty "telling" if you ask me. I am surprised daily at the sexism that is in nursing. I'm not young, I'm not naive, I just figured that maybe it would not be as bad as it is. Not that it's terrible, I don't want to overstate it, but it is what it is, time for denial to end...I actually honestly thought that women had more integrity than us men...they don't...
-
Nurse of the year
Well, good! Just wondering...throughout my entire Health System, which consists of 4 facilities, one of them being a large level 1 trauma center, I have not heard of a male RN getting the recognition/award. Not trying to stir anything up, just making an observation. Thanks
-
Nurse of the year
Just wondering...any of the male nurses here get "Nurse of the year" at your facility?

Name one of your favorite things about being a male nurse.
Because it comes natural...I have a member, and I hate shopping
-
All Men Shift

-
All Men Shift

MEN, dont come into nursing

Do you believe that socioeconomics and educations are biggest factors?
Farawyn,I just want to say that there seems to be lurkers on this site, who are just waiting to take something you say, twist it out of context, accuse YOU of having the problem, when they should just shut up if they cannot help but making it ALL ABOUT THEM....and this reply of mine will reflect more of this...
-
Do you believe that socioeconomics and educations are biggest factors?
Farawyn...some folks on here assume they have God status....they suppose they are defending a higher ethic, while offending with closed ears. They are probably the ones that talk all the time on the job as well..."oh, everyone wants to here me!!!...blah, blah, blah..."
-
Do you believe that socioeconomics and educations are biggest factors?
Not that I reckon you will care...you seem a it abrasive. But the humor I appreciate. Some folks aren't as elegant as y'all, but still deserve the respect you claim to promote :-/...I have been discouraged so many times on this site by replies such as yours...maybe I don't catch the essence

"Holiday/year end" gift
Alright, I don't do any of this for the Holiday gift. But I am perplexed, offended, hurt, and downright enraged at this crappy treatment. This isn't an argument against Physicians, or PA's etc. This is a basic question about "what did your hospital give you for the yearly Christmas/ whatever?" I am sure that the Physicians received some sort of significant Holiday Bonus, and the PA's as well....then we get to the lowly RN's who are the backbone of the ER, who keep the physicians on task, who assess and reassess, who listen and treat accordingly... In a nutshell, I/we got a windshield ice scraper...I AM LIVID!!! I would seriously rather receive NOTHING!! What a flipping joke!!!! This is disgusting!! Try giving the physicians an ice scraper, so that they can scrape their window in the "outdated Physicians Only" parking spaces. Sorry, can't articulate as well as I'd like right now. Basically, WHAT DID YOUR FACILITY GIFT YOU (compared to the God complex physicians)?

Name one of your favorite things about being a male nurse.
No way!?...I have had Female patients tell of how they "had this great male nurse..." But NEVER have I even heard of a female "asking" for a male nurse. HAD TO Bed a one time cosmic event...:-)

MEN, dont come into nursing
Do stats show that "men get promoted faster than women?" Certainly doesn't appear to be true where I work. It's the "good 'ole girls club" where I work. They hang out together, shop together, work out together...management defaults to the ladies with any departmental "special projects or promotions."
