Our burn patients all go straight back. Also any stable unit pt that came to OR already intubated can return straight back as well. Obviously any pts. that require stabilization post-op do come to us at the discresion of Anethesia.

The PACU is not a very forgiving setting for learning the basics as listed by KrustyThe Nurse. I would encourage you to get previous ICU/ED experience and then try for PACU. Good luck!

Hello, from Missouri/USA. I work in a large Level One Trauma center here and our PACU has 21 slots that are BUSY all the time. We are a fast paced center taking all sorts of cases (Burn, General Surgery, GI, Ortho, Vascular, OB/GYN, Same Day, etc.)....

We rotate call and are responsible for 1 a month (12-16 hr shifts). We respond at any time for ANYTHING. If we are waiting between cases, we are allowed to sleep in the "call room". There is a Call1 person who gets called first and then a "back up"...

Missouri: $2:50/hr, $10:00 travel pay if called in, time and a half once you are called in, differential for night/weekend. 2 hour min. We are no where near Calif. it looks like!
