  1. I recently got hired onto a full-time PM shift. I have heard a couple people say they do not like PM shift. Could some people tell why they LIKE PM shift? Some positive feedback may help. Thanks a lot!

Hi everyone- I was wondering what you think of a new grad starting off in telemetry? Would it be good experience? Thanks a lot!!!!

I have an interview for an externship in a couple of weeks for the PICU. I am really excited but I am nervous about the interview. What types of questions do you think they would ask a student nurse for an externship? If you have any ideas I would really appreciate it!!! Thanks!!!
  4. I recently finished up an entire semester of adult med/surg clinicals. I start my pediatric rotation in a few weeks. I know it will be much different than taking care of adults. Could anyone tell me what to expect? What was your pediatric rotation like? Any info, tips, advice would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks.

On a scale from 1-10, how would you rate your stress level on an average day in the NICU (with 10 being the highest stress possible)?
  6. I shadowed a nurse in the NICU today and I loved it! I have been interested in it for a long time now but now I know I really do love it. I think the work the NICU nurses do is wonderful! Just one question: Did all of you feel overwhelmed at first? I mean, some of these babies have A LOT going on (as you all know). As a student it seems very overwhelming but I really want to be a NICU nurse. I would love to know if any of you felt the same way, and how long it took until you felt comfortable? Thanks a lot!!!!!!!:) :) :)
  7. I was just curious...are there part-time positions available in the NICU, or usually just full-time? If there are part-time positions, what would a typical schedule be like? Thanks!
  8. I know how you feel. I am only a nursing student right now, but I get it all the time during clinical. I am 21 years old, and I have had several patients aske me "are you 17?" It doesn't bother me too much now as a student, but I hope I don't keep getting the same reactions when I become an RN.
  9. I finally visited the OR today during my clincial. It was really cool. I saw a total knee replacement. I was wondering, do hospitals have OR internships? If so, what woukd be the role of the intern? Thanks.
  10. How often is the NCLEX given? Several times a year, a month...??? I am just curious. I don't take it for about a year and a half, but I am starting to think about it now.
  11. Does anyone think it is necessary to work in Med-Surg before working in the OR? I really don't really like Med-Surg, but I wanted to know some of your opinions. Thanks a bunch!

I found these jokes today on some website. I don't really know how funny they are, but i thought I would share them anyways. What is the difference between a Nun and an Operating Room Nurse? A Nun only serves one God. What is the difference between a surgeon and a puppy? The puppy stops whining when he grows up. SETTING: In an operating room are a surgeon and his assistant. A patient lies on an operating table. NURSE: Stop, Doctor! You're cutting the wrong leg. Look at the chart. DOCTOR: Never yell at me while I'm operating! It disturbs my concentration. Can't you tell the right leg from the left leg? NURSE: Yes, and I can tell the right leg from the wrong leg. DOCTOR: For God's sake, Nurse! Peoples' legs are left and right; not right and wrong. NURSE: You're cutting his right leg Doctor. The chart says you're supposed to remove his left leg. DOCTOR: Don't you realize, Nurse, that, if I removed his left leg, then his right leg would be left? :rotfl:

Are there many surgeries at night and on weekends? I know emergency surgerues of course, but what about scheduled surgeries? I was just wondering how often OR nurses work nights and weekends.
  14. I am a nursing student and am considering working in the OR someday. I have just a few questions that I would REALLY appreciate if some of you OR nurses could answer. What do you love about the OR? Does the OR accept new grads? How long is a typical orientation? What do you not like about the OR? How many surgeries do you do a day? Having some of these questions answered would really help me. Thanks!
  15. I am a nursing student in my second week of clinicals. I have a question for all of you wonderful, expert nurses: did you ever feel nervous, timid, and unsure of yourself? Did you make mistakes? I would love to hear about it for some inspiration. I work hard and I just want to know that I will catch on to it all someday! Thanks
