  1. UNCC CRNA Fall 2015

PM me and I can answer some questions you may have. I will be attending CMC/UNCC starting this fall, and had my interview this last November.
  2. MEN, dont come into nursing

Male nurse here, and I completely disagree. I love this career, and can't see myself doing much else. I enjoy the responsibility and satisfaction of helping people. Every job has downsides, and maybe this one has too many for you. But I don't think y...
  3. Would you like your job more if you were paid more?

While most on here are saying the money wouldn't help, I'm going to disagree. I think a few more dollars/hr would make some of the crap seem more bearable. But I'm not burnt out yet or anything, and I'm young and eager to save up for a house and star...
  4. What are you most vigilant about?

I'm a stickler for restraints. I've only been on the unit 15 months, but I've never had a self extubation...and don't plan on one anytime soon. I don't care if my pt is sedated, unresponsive, or fully cooperative. Bilat wrist restraints are in place,...
  5. Curious...how many attempts did it take you to pass NCLEX?

one try, 75 questions. I was nervous when that last question came up, because I didn't want to have to stay any longer than that. But all was good in the end
  6. From construction to nursing, has it been done?

I did construction cleanup for many summers and during high school. I knew of two guys that made their way into nursing. This was way before I had ever considered entering the field myself, and I thought it must have been quite a switch for them. But...
  7. What color are your scrubs?

Here in OK it seems like navy is the most common color, but one local hospital recently went with black. I have to say I like navy and would mostly wear navy scrubs regardless of a dress code.
  8. Patients in Peds being a guy.

I would imagine it would depend on the staffing available, pt age, and how comfortable the pt and their family are with a particular gender nurse. I know in my peds clinicals there was a teenage boy that preferred male nurses, and that was accommodat...
  9. Atheism in nursing

We deal with all types...especially when it comes to families. I'd say you did everything fine. I wouldn't feel comfortable praying with a patient's family either.
  10. Evolution and Nursing

There is plenty of evidence for evolution, but none for creation. I'm always baffled at the lack of skepticism in the nursing community, especially considering the amount of scientific knowledge and critical thinking skills we are supposed to possess...
  11. What do you say if you don't pray?

My personal take...just be honest. Tell the patient you don't subscribe to their particular religion/beliefs. And it depends on what they're asking, too. If they want you to pray in front of them or with them, a polite decline or offer for a chaplain...
  12. Did You Know You Wanted to Do Anesthesia Before...

I found out about the profession while shadowing a nurse in an OR. Shadowing the nurse was supposed to help me decide if I wanted to pursue a career in nursing, but I spent the majority of the time talking with the CRNA...and that's what convinced me...
  13. So how is Charlotte, NC?

and1ccrn, I too am looking to attend the UNCC/CMC program starting fall 2015. I'm actually tidying up my application now. Would you be willing to talk about the program via PM/email?
