  1. anxious nursing student, If you have not had any past situations involving not following rules or policys, then use that as your reply to the question. ex: "I have not in my experience had a problem with following rules/policys/decisions. But my patients care will always be my top priority." Just a suggestion, Good Luck with the nursing program.
  2. Katina430, I also had to repeat Med-surg 3. I was working and going to school. I failed by 2 points. I felt like a total failure. I was horrible to live with and depressed for about 2 weeks. I had no one to blame but myself, I studied, but I didn't always put my whole heart into it. Anyway, I took med-surg 3 again (I kept all my notes)and passed. I've been an RN for over a year now. Good luck to ya, keep your chin up and don't quit!
  3. Hey DeeAnnCMA, I do not have any first hand knowledge of South College. But I have heard they are expensive. You might want to check out the following nursing programs: Lincoln Memorial University, Roane State, Walter State, University of TN and TN Tech (LPN program ). Good Luck
  4. I would also try UT medical center, Blount Memorial Hospital and Mercy (St Mary's). Have you tried any nursing homes or assisted living facilities? Good Luck!
  5. Pebbles, I attended TN Tech center's LPN program a few yrs ago. We DID NOT practice inserting foley's into each other! We did practice starting IV's on our instructors. The LPN program was 4 days a week, 8 - 2pm, class 2 days, clinicals 2 days. Hope this info eases your mind alittle. Let me know if you have any further questions. Good Luck
  6. I had a Littmans Master cardiology stethoscope and I loved it, so did the mouse that chewed through the tubing. I plan on getting another one and keeping it in a hard plastic case.
  7. I am an RN in Occ. Health. I am wanting to take a trauma course. I have minimal experience in the ER. Has anyone taken TNCC (trauma nurse core course) or PHTLS(prehospital trauma life support)? The two courses are both 2 days in length and have similiar content, but the TNCC seems to be more indepth. Any opinions are welcome! Thanks
  8. I have heard that 1st semester is difficult. I was a LPN when I started LMU, so I didn't have to take 1st semester. My hardest semester was the 3rd. I failed it by 1.5 points and had to retake it. I was also working full time while attending school. Yes, the school was very disorganized at the administrative level, in my opinion. I'm sure you will do fine, just keep your nose to the grindstone and focus on the light at the end of the tunnel. Pt's love funny nurses, it helps relieve a bit of the stress of being in the hospital. You should be able to get in a deer or bear hunt around Thanksgiving or Christmas break. God Bless
  9. Congrats Country Boy, I graduated from LMU in 2008. Which campus will you be attending? I remember being excited and very nervous my few months at LMU. Be prepared for a bumpy, disorganized ride in nursing school. Some days you're the windshield, some days you're the bug. You will learn some great skills and have some exciting experiences. I will be happy to answer any questions you have. Good Luck & God Bless. p.s.: the majority of female nurses enjoy working with male nurses. I have worked with some wonderful male nurses.
  10. Hi Amber, I'm a LMU 08 grad. My grades were not very good when I applied to LMU, alot of B's and C's on my pre reqs . But I applied any way and was accepted. I say, Go For It!!!! Good Luck!
  11. SoCaliGirl, You should get a schedule each semester showing the classes and clinical days. I attended school in TN and the classes and clinicals were Mon - Fri, 8am-3pm. It is not easy to work and go to school, but it can be done. I worked 30 - 35 hrs a week while I was in school. Good Luck
  12. Congrats on being accepted into the program! I worked at Blount as a LPN a few yrs ago. I didn't go through their LPN program. I worked on 5N Oncology/Med/surg. It was a hard floor, but I learned alot! Welcome to the world of Nursing!
  13. Annie, Yes I was contacted by a recruiter. Unfortunately I do not have the experience required for the position I was interested in. I was at the recruiting event Covenant Health had last year and it was bigger. Each Covenant Health hospital had a booth and a recruiter to talk with. They had a "Tropical" theme with a steel drum band and fake money to use for gambling or buying gift items. I guess I was expecting the same type event. Good luck, hope you get the job you applied for.
  14. Did anyone else go to the Covenant Health Nurse night out at Flemmings Steakhouse this week? I was a little disappointed. The accomodations were too small, it was "standing room only". I was expecting to have a good time and apply for a few jobs. I spoke to one recruiter, handed her my resume and left. Just curious as to what anyone else thought about it.
  15. Currently UTMC has 2 or 3 nurse intern positions on their job board. You can check out all the open positions on their site.
  16. Go for it!!!! Nursing is a great field to work in. God Bless and good luck!
  17. RN007, I sent you a PM a few days ago. I'm not sure if you received it. I think your PM box is full.
  18. Lovin Learning, I to wanted to go on a cruise to celebrate graduation, but unfortunately my plans didn't work out. So my husband and I celebrated after I passed the NCLEX with a bottle of champagne and a cheesecake. My celebration wasn't as elaborate as I had first wanted, but it was still alot of fun!
  19. Heather, No, I do not have children. But there was a woman in my class that had 3 kids and was pregnant with twins. Currently I work in Occupational Health. I have been here for almost 4 yrs. I worked at Blount Mem. on 5N, oncology/med-surg for a year right after LPN school. I got tired of caring for 10 -13 pts each shift and left Blount. I was very lucky that my current employer let me work around my LMU-RN school schedule. 98% of the time Occ. Health is very calm. When the other 2% occurs, all h*ll breaks loose! I feel like I am losing some of my nursing skills and I have been trying to help out in the OR lately. Clinicals will help you decide which area you might want to work in. The great thing about nursing is, if you don't like the area you are working in, you can pick a different area. The options are endless. PM me if ya want to, I will be happy to answer any questions.
  20. HeatherTN, Congrats on being accepted Spring 09. Get prepared for a wild, bumpy, hectic, disorganized ride! I graduated May 08. I was at the Blount site for 1 semester. I liked it. The LMU program is ok. Some of the instructors really care about teaching and helping the students, others do not. I think we had 2 days of classroom instruction and two days of clinicals each week. Each semester is scheduled a little bit different. Sorry, that's not much help. I might not be able to help out with the schedule, but I can offer moral support! Caring for a family and going to school is not easy, but it can be done! Good luck and God Bless
  21. I took the NCLEX in June and had between 125 - 135 questions. I had the same type questions you had. I didn't recognize some of the meds on the test. I was sure that I failed. Turns out that I PASSED! I'm sure you will too! Good luck to you.
  22. Lady Vol, No I did not go through Blount's LPN program. I went to Tn Tech at Athens. I started my pre-reqs while I was at Blount, but I left before I actually started the RN program. I do know a few students that signed a contract with Blount and had their entire RN program paid for. If the right position were offered, I would go back to Blount.
  23. I worked at Blount Mem. right after graduating LPN school from 10-2003 to 01- 2005. I worked 5 North (affectionately called hell north), Oncology/medsurg. I enjoyed the nurses I worked with, but the nurse to pt ratio was rough, 1:13 was the worst that I had. Things are a bit different since I worked there. I know that some areas have been changed. I never had any big problems with my co-workers or the management staff. I also received tuition reembursement while I was there. 2 North was known to be abit less stressful than 5N while I was there. Hope this helps. Feel free to ask any other questions. Good Luck and God Bless
  24. Sorry, I'm referring to the other "UT". The University of TN medical center program. I would love to learn to scrub in and eventually become a RN first assistant. Good luck in your program.
  25. I'm not sure that it is the same program. After completion of the program you sign a contract agreeing to work for UT medical center for 2 yrs. The class already started for this year. I will have to wait and apply in Jan for the 2009 class. That gives me a little time to check it out.
